So I got a brand new Princeton 68 Reverb. The reverb is noisy, very noisy. I google this, find tons of tons of people with the same problem, even videos of the exact same sound. Also, the whole cabinet rattles, at low sounds even, like 3 ish. Is Fender really this bad? If so, which brand would you go for, money no object?

Welcome to the forum.

Return the amp to where you bought it, if possible. It has a 2 year warranty.

Money no object? Buy a vintage Princeton Reverb, 1969 or earlier. No one is making reverb tanks like they used to.

+1,000,000!

I love Fender amps. I just wish that someone were still making them.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Personally, I've had it with recent made (since early 2000s) cheap, thin-based PCB amps. For guitar use or hi-fi.

Peavey seemed to start if all, with their nice sounding, but cheaply made "Classic" series. Had a couple amps keep coming back (Classic 30) every two years --- for critical failures. Just could not make them reliable.

Sad part, is the cabs on those amps are nice. Heavy. Good sound boards. So they look like they be reliable. But, the guts! Wow! Whomever engineered those boards and how they are laid out!

I know some folks here successfully work on these latest model Fender amps. Even mod them. I tip my hat to them. I think the last "modern" Fender I worked on was a DRRI. That amp was sold by owner, so I don't know the history of the fix.

You're leaps and bounds ahead by investing into a vintage Princeton Reverb. I've rebuilt quite a few '68 Custom PR's (see pic) and it's just not worth the time and effort. I quit doing it because for two or three more hunnie buns one can get the real thing and it will hold it's value, plus. These won't.

That's a solid looking rebuild/upgrade, Greg!

Fellow forum member Bill Moore dropped by yesterday with a gorgeous 5E3 Deluxe that he built last spring and he wanted my opinion of it. It was a great looking and great sounding amp. Solid all the way around, just as Fender *used to be known for*. Beautiful in every respect and it didn't cost three thousand bucks.

Thanks for the words of compliment Arjay. I even go as far as punching a hole and using a CE can cap. Very much worth it for a person's own "new age nothing like the old" Fender amp.

The price of the original tweeds are up the for sure, especially the high power Twins.

Beautiful work Upnorth.
That almost makes me want to gut my 1st Gen Blues Jr and use the chassis for a handwired copy.

...but I'll wait until it fails ;)

When did you do this? AB resistors are really getting hard to find.

Those were from a personal stash. I quit doing the repair/build/rebuild thing so I used up all the good stuff. Spending my time and effort at the lake now instead.

Serenading the fish. Much more relaxing, than inhaling solder fumes.

100% right arjay!! 2 years ago I bought an allen accomplice junior. based on a deluxe reverb. its nice and light and gives me the sound I was looking for.

50 years ago I begged my dad for a twin reverb. I got a different amp from him (Baldwin supersound) but never gave up on my dreams. last fall a coworker and I were talking, and he mentioned an amp guru in the area. I checked his website, and he had a rebuilt twin for sale. it started life as a master volume silverface, which he rebuilt into ab763 specs. a new pine cabinet with blonde tolex, and weber speakers completed it, and I have my 60's twin. no other looks like it, and I got a screaming deal.

I may now have every amp I ever need!
