Hi all. I bought a champion 40 last year for bedroom use. It’s a touch too loud and I feel lacking that tube warmth

I’ve seen a used vibro champ XD for sale and wondered if that would solve my problem?

Despite being an older amp, how would it compare to champion 40?

Stick or twist?!

Cheers

If true "tube warmth" in a low-powered platform is what you seek, try an *original* Champ, Vibro Champ, or Bronco Amp. These amps are 100% all-tube technology and with 5½ watts, should be perfect for intimate settings such as a bedroom or even a garage.

Yes, you could take the above advice, that's a cool way to go,,,,,,,,,,,

What I'd like about the Champion 40 is, at least its a 12" speaker. The Vibro Champ XD has an 8" speaker. I thought the Super Champ XD was more popular with its 10" speaker.

I only own a Champion 100, so I can't say for sure how the 40 sounds. I like my C 100 amp. My opinion would be to stick with the Champion 40, keep that amp, and get into the Hot Rod series. They have some tubes. Fenders ’68 Custom Princeton® Reverb is a real nice amp.

Many thanks all. I ended up getting the XD and am really happy with it. Can’t believe the difference in tone

Selling champion 40 for £100 if anyone interested. Pretty much as new

Cheers

I like my Vibro Champ XD a lot. I didn't chime in earlier because I've never heard any of the Champion series so I don't know how they compare.
------------------------
I've been a diehard 12" speaker guy for decades. I like 15"s and 10"s are ok, but I completely dismissed smaller speakers.

But since I'm now pretty much just a home/apartment player, the VCXD's 8" speaker comes as a pleasant revelation. Less efficient, pushes less air, but still capable of more bass than I want/need. Sounds great at lower volume than my 12"s.

Would probably turn to mush cranked up, but I've got a louder amp for that.
