After trying larger amps over the last several months I decided to go back to using a smaller and lighter amp, I picked up the Blues Junior IV and also grabbed the Fender pugilist distortion. I've gotten plenty of use from a BJr III so figured why not go for the new guy, this version 4 is very good I really like the way it sounds stock and it handles my pedals nicely. Anyway just my initial impression I will add more as time goes on and break the amp in.

Having had this amp for a couple of months now I feel it doesn't need and help from some billm mods that I typically do to my previous BJrs, the amp is actually quite nice stock but did install all JJ tubes. The A-Type speaker is pretty good but wasn't sold on it 100% I still prefer British voiced speakers especially since I use Marshall based dirt pedals, changed out the speaker for a Celestion Greenback and was very happy with the results its got better presence and the mids cut better and has descent low end.

As a pedal platform amp this works great with my current pedal line up Barber Gain Changer and Barber BUSS OD the amp takes pedals great and much better than the BJ III I had, Fender did a great job tweaking the BJIV.

a few weeks ago decided to cut up one of my Seismic Audio extension cabs it's a good size cab for a 1x12 and installed my BJr IV chassis into it... sounds awesome with the larger cab, you will be surprised at how much more low end is added and with much better projection.

Here are a few shots!

You need a metal shield on that back cover to keep the preamp stable. I use aluminum flashing tape. Then dress the preamp ribbon cables to lay against it to reduce hum and prevent oscillation. The ribbon cables on the left are the exception. Dress them down and away from the Blue transformer wire.
I like the new tube retainers. The old style were a pita.
The extra bass comes from the added distance from the front of the speaker, around the cab, to the rear of the speaker. The bass cancellation factor is diminished with the longer, deeper cabinet.
The dispersion of the cab is improved by the added reflective surface around the speaker. It improves apparent efficiency by directing more sound towards the listener.
Its gonna make a great amp!
