Not sure where to post this on the forum but here goes anyway -

I built this pedal the other day, pretty decent pedal really, but it's lacking some mids. I already lowered the original layout caps from .047 to .02uf. Any ideas? I thought about removing the tone cap and pot completely.

Thanks, UN

The 1uf off pin 7 offers a lot of bass. Making it smaller would restrict the bass and put its focus on mids.
You might also try a bright cap across the volume control if it doesn't make it too fizzy. Start with a 250pf for more mid. Have fun

Thanks for the info, I'll try some Mica's across the input terminal and the wiper. I don't have anything smaller than that 1uf electro.

I should be able to run two 1uf in series to lower the capacitance as voltage isn't really an issue here.

Have you tried different tubes, 12AT7, 12AX7?

I did, 12AX7, 12AT7 and a 12AY7. They all "work" but a 12AU7 seems to be the best fit. Lowering the value of the 1uf cap to a .5uf and adding a 120pf bright cap was an improvement. Kind of a neat, simple pedal, it doesn't change the tone of an amp. Doesn't exaggerate bass, mids, or treble. It's basically just an extra gain stage and can give a huge clean volume boost with the gain set low or add a little grit as you increase the gain. It gets a little grainy toward the upper end of the gain setting with humbuckers. A quiet power supply is a must. I've tried a few and found one 12v adapter that was dead quiet in my stash. It'll run on a 9v ps as well.
