I have an older HRD and noticed that the newer HRDIII has what appears to be a cage/heat sink on the output tubes.
Would it be something recommended to add to the older models? If so, is the part available for sale?

The EU has a relatively new safety regulation to protect people from burning their fingers on hot tubes.

Some manufacturers seal up the whole opening in the back of the cabinet with a metal mesh screen. Others put a cage over the tubes.

That's the only function of the cage -- to keep you from doing something most people know not to do.

In that case I guess I have nothing to worry about

Well, I touched 'em once when I was young. When I said "oww" I let go.

I suppose someone could coincidentally have a seizure at the same time and clamp on real tight.

(The EU tries to write simple, broad, product safety rules that cover everything, rather than thousand page rules with exemptions and loopholes for niche products. So it's not quite as ludicrous as I made it sound.)

I'm picking up what you're throwing down.

One thing I HAVE noticed (on some models), is the cage is held up snug under the tubes via 'springs' which can eventually give possibility to add vibration noise. My new Hot Rod Pro Junior III is like this. I haven't experienced any noise from it yet (that I can hear), but I can picture the springs weakening throughout time and tube changes, and maybe becoming a "buzz" nuisance...or a search, purchase, and replacement of springs.
My Blues Junior (manufactured 1999), has straight steel dowels that will last forever, and the only way they'll vibrate (I imagine) is if one allows the screws to vibrate loose---so free periodic 'preventative maintenance' visits to the amp will suffice.
I say; leave the amp as is...and keep curious children and pets away from the back of it. Problem solved.

Don't kid yourself, those cages aren't to protect "you" , they're in place to protect the company from a lawsuit. No different than the 12" thick safety rules book at the job.

You might be referring to the springs that are for the tube retainer bracket, under the output tubes. The cage is different, and only on newer models. The cage is attached to the backplate, shielding the user from the hot tubes.

I use dampeners on the tubes, which keeps the springs still also.

You are correct...I misread the original post. Thank you.

My Vibro-King came with those tube cages. First thing I did was remove them.

I have a HRD III that I purchased in August of 2017 (so around 6 months old) that has some terrible metal rattle sounds coming out even at lower volumes. I just took the back panel and cage off, no more rattle.

Yep, no problem caused by removing the cage. See my reply on other thread.
