Hi all,

How's the Yamaha THR10? I'm looking at the Boss Katana 50 and the Blackstar ID core. Looking at it for home use only(small room). Not gonna use it for gigging.

Clean tones are a priority!

I've soured on Blackstar since my HT-5C melted down. The ID Core line looks good, but their forum is full of guys complaining about their amps turning into useless bricks after firmware updates.

A lot of guys love the THR10 for home use, but I went with the Katana 50. If you don't really need the space and portability and you like a single 12" speaker over the two little ones in the Yamaha then it's an easy choice. However if you want it to double as a music player, do stereo stuff, or run on batteries, go Yamaha. They're both very well-regarded amps it just depends on which form factor you want.

I agree with Wayne2. If you need the diminutive size and you know with absolute certainty that you will never jam or gig then the Yamaha is a terrific choice.

I also agree the Katana is a more versatile choice and I would personally go with the 100 (112) for the greater flexibility.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I love my THR10C; the Deluxe model is wonderful, as is the Matchless. Super-convenient for playing on the go too.

But, I've almost fully replaced it with my Mustang GT40. The cleans are great - the blackface Deluxe and Twin are crisp and clear. The tweeds are terrific, especially the '59 Bassman. Lots of effects and customizations. The app works well for me (I use an iPhone and iPad). Not as portable as the THR, but in every other way I prefer the GT40. An amazing value for $250.
