So I got a 5150iii 100w head second hand about 6 months ago, played it up until 2 days ago, and it was operating fine. 2 days ago I was playing, and upon turning it on, the volumes seemed low (clean, blue and red channels all sounded less loud. So we played it for about a half hour, and all of a sudden, the volume went up gradually, a few db's, it operated this way for a few minutes and then there was a gradual volume drop (gain and tone were not affected) but the drop kept continuing. I turned it onto standby at this point, before the volume dropped lower.

Did some research, was told to try without the footswitch, and to run the guitar straight into the amp. I also did this, turned it onto standby to warm up for 5 mins, took it off and played for 6 minutes with the proper volume, and after 6 minutes it did the same volume drop.

Any idea what this could be? If its as simple as a preamp tube swap, that's something I could do, but if its something that could be more complicated, I'd still like to understand what the issue is (wont work on it myself, plate voltage and death etc) and have some info to provide the non existent amp techs in my area.

The amp is past the 5 year transferable warranty.

Tell me I didn't spend 1600$ for 6 months of tone, or tell me I did, if you can tell me exactly why the beast is doing this.

I also understand that it may not be just one particular thing, and again, just trying to further my understanding of this black magic tube mojo.

Thanks for looking, and I appreciate all the feedback.

Cheers!

Look more a power supply issue IMO than other.
First with any tube amp, testing all tubes is the first thing to do.
You may see a qualified tech :(

Test a amp ; with guitar direct on amp , no pedal board, only guitar.
Speaker and the cable should be in know good shape

Schematic here ;

Merci pour la reponse.

(For the benefit of those who don't speak french; Do you mean the power tubes themselves, or that there may be a power issue elsewhere to the board?)

Merci encore!
