I have a early Delux and I've suddenly developed a problem. It buzzes, not classic 60Hz hum but a buzz, regardless as to whether there is anything plugged into an input channel or not. The buzz is a constant volume and not affected by any settings on the pots, volume or otherwise. All the tubes are good (I have a tube tester, yeah I'm that kind of geek) and turning the volume up masks the buzz but the signal is distorted at all volume settings, both channels, once again regardless of gain, presence or any other setting.

Anybody else have this happen? Any ideas where to start looking?

Mercy buckets...

I was able to find a schematic with test points and values so I'll tear it down and start hunting. If I find anything I'll be sure to post it. Failing that I'll break out the scope.

First , wich Deluxe ? After '85 ? You are in the Modern Amps section.

Tube tester are not reliable to test most tube issues and worst to check noisy tubes. The only reliable test is to put know good tubes.

Had a couple amps that buzzed too, but while playing. Fixed it by tightening the screws on those thin back wood panels that shield stuff (like tubes). Upper and lower if It had them. If the buzz is coming from speaker, probably won't help; but worth a try rather than tearing everything down.

So, with amp at zero volume and no guitar plugged in, it buzzes? Sounds a like input jack ground loop [bad grounding point(s)]. Bad main PSU caps (how old is the amp?). Bad solder point(s), somewhere on the circuit board.

You could trying unplugging tubes, one-at a time, from input stage back to phase inverter. And see where the buzzing stops. Need to know specific model Deluxe you have and follow the layout scheme of that amp. This will, at least help narrow down what part of the amp is causing the noise. If you go all the way to pulling the phase inverter and the amp still buzzes --- then it would have to be the output stage (6V6GT tube stage or output transformer) or the power supply.

NB: Turn amp off, let cool, between pulling tubes. :)
