I am a long time Hot Rod Deville user and picked up a used Blues Deville (BD) 4x10 a few months ago...

The Blues Deville sounded great in the store, then shortly after I took it home it developed some odd snap, crackle, popping noises that got louder over time. A tech diagnosed this problem as bad capacitors and was able to replace them. Just before the capacitor problem got fixed, the clean channel lost its cleanliness - it sounds crunchy and distorted, not in a good way. The tech has not been able to figure this problem out.

My tech installed new 5881 Sovtek power tubes that are matched (previous pair weren't matched) and he said he performed biasing. Today, I tried swapping the preamp tubes from my Hot Rod into the BD - pre tubes from both amps were 12AX7s - it made no difference.

I made a recording of the Blues Deville and the Hot Rod. Take a listen (BD first then HRD @ 42 seconds) https://vimeo.com/236180075/65d7c6353f

At this point, I don't want to pay hundreds to a tech because I've already spent the equivalent of a new deville. While I have basic skills with electronics repair, I'm not about to take the whole thing apart. What should I do? Sell it and take a loss?
