I'll keep this simple, probably discussed before but just hoping for some validation. I'm not happy with my sound, could be a failure or just bad design but I'm ready to fix.

Thoughts on changing out 6L6 with 6v6? Yes I know of bias changes but I'm willing if it's a good idea.
Thoughts on keeping the 12ax7 a's ... or changing
What wattage is the stock speaker gold ohm 8 12" p/n 037617? Doesn't seem to be much of a speaker.
Evm12L is expensive and 200 watt but seems people like...wgs12L less expensive and saw a demo I liked... thoughts on using in this amp? Better ideas?

Thanks, I appreciate your advice.

It really depends on what you're not happy with! For what it's worth, I made a really simple change to mine and it's given me the sound I want - but that might not be what you're after, of course. I simply changed V1 to a 5751, with slightly lower gain than the stock 12AX7. I now leave the amp on the Drive channel all the time, with gain set to around 4, and adjust my guitar's volume control to clean up the sound or give a little grit, but without getting into really thick distortion.

Works for me, and it's a cheap and straightforward mod. If you don't like it, you can change back in seconds.

+1 on the 5751 in V1. Your thought of a speaker upgrade is a good idea and then give the speaker ample time for break in. Just me, but I would not be changing the power tubes.

To mod or not ?

Unless you have some experience on amp mod and fix you should be very careful.
You may waste money with mod without have the sound you are looking for.

A experienced amp tech can tel if amp have failure or not. That is the first thing you must know.

IMO ,you mod a amp or a guitar if you like the sound first and you want to upgrade it.
If you don't like the sound, this is not the good amp or guitar for you .

Thanks all, I've got the 5751 on the way and an eminence v1216 on the way, there were other speakers I'm very interested in but I felt this was a decent upgrade and I'm curious how much these two changes will do.

Also decided after a lot of testing, new patch cables and facing the amp against the wall and using some rags inside (away from the tubes) makes a difference. The amp is too chimey, so brought mids way down and not using the bright button or channel 1 any longer, makes a difference.

I just don't get why Fender didn't do a better job with this amp...there seems to be a legion of people who feel this is not a good stock amp.

I will post my results for future ref.

On mine I replaced both V1 & V2 with 5751's. Changed the speaker to a WGS ET65.

Awesome, I was looking at theWGSs .. I think I will try one soon and sell the eminence, why v2? I thought the V1 would be enough to take away some mids and volume. Maybe even prevent early break up on the clean channel.

I did a lot of experimentation with the BDRI. That particular combination gave me the best tone with both channels.

Just a follow up for anyone considering... replacing the speaker was first, then v1 with a 5751 from Svotek, then replaced v2 ... everything is great. I pretty much stopped using input 1 so we will see if that changes now.

Yet to really mess with the dirty channel since all this, I'm not expecting to fall in love with it but maybe it will be more interesting than it was, I just like the clean channel wit input 2.

I'm interested in what an even better speaker would do but for 70 bucks it's just so much better. Plus another 50 for two preamp tubes.

The only hang up I had was having to remove the circuit box because there's no way to get the speaker out through the back panel without removing it. 6 long screws hold that in place and getting it lined up after is tricky but you can do it.

Thanks to those that gave me solid advice....I'm glad I stayed away from the power tubes at this point.

One more thing, I was initially happy with just changing v1 tube, but I'm liking both changed now as well so I don't see changing it back. Volume will be better tested when we have a jam night.
