I have a Super-Sonic 60 combo made in 2010. I just picked this up used recently and noticed the sound of the gain channel wasn't quite right. I changed out the tubes since the amp appeared to have the original Groove Tubes in it. This didn't improve the sound. I should specify that I have another of these in the head version that I use at church, and also that the clean channel seems fine to me. The gain channel is very weak. The neck pickup on my LP doesn't really seem to have any clarity, just smooth midrangey sound. No punchy tone at all. So tonight I was playing and getting a bit frustrated at not getting a decent thumpy rhythm sound out of it (both gains set at just below 4), so I turned the volume up to 5. This should have been earth shatteringly loud. Instead it got very high endy, with no thump at all. It reminded me of the SS22 when you turn that up. The other SS60 would have woken up the neighbors at 5, and the neck position has great punchy tone, not a blah lifeless yuck. Trying to figure out where to start looking. Any thoughts? Thanks very much.

If you examine the schematics of the SS60, you will see differences in certain tone shaping capacitors.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a different OT.
So a difference in sound may be normal.
It's not too unusual. The original Peavey 5150 has differences between head and combo

I agree that there are some differences in the tone of the combo versus head, and I've had another SS60 combo before. This is definitely some sort of malfunction. Volume on the gain channel just isn't there like I know it should be. You would think an output malfunction would affect clean channel as well. Not sure where to look.

V3 & V4 are involved in the burn channel preamp. Try subbing in a 12AX7 tube in each position.
After that, it gets deep. There are 2 ICs in the circuit as well. U1 and U2 power the tone controls.
There should be zero volts DC on the output pins of these op amps. U2, pins 1 and 7. U1, pins 1,7,8,&14.
