Anyone out there have any experience with the Fender Deluxe 900 amp.
Image url above. I bought it new at a local music shop a few years ago and now have issues with it. It plays perfectly for a while and then it will start to act up.
The signal starts to break up and sometimes the amp. will kick out completely.
It was checked by the store's tech. and he couldn't find anything wrong with it.
The amp. now sits unused as it is totally unreliable. I've always been a big supporter of Fender's product, but this particular problem has made me rethink my loyalty.
I've heard of other Fender amps. having similar problems. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks, John

While I haven't had one come across my bench, you are describing a connection breaking down on warmup.
The requirement of lead free soldering is often the culprit. It sticks poorly and causes the symptoms you describe.
A complete resolder will probably restore reliability.

I'm working on a similar symptom in an Acoustasonic 150. In this case it pops and the sound cuts out. The buttons don't work either. It works again for a few minutes with a Power on off cycle. I traced that problem to a fault in the digital board. If I put cold spray on a Qtip and keep the DSP chip cold, it keeps working. The chip is available for $15. I'm gonna try it.

+1

Reheating and reflowing all of the joints may cure the problem but use caution with the board-mounted components. The traces on Fender's PCB's are extremely fragile and easily damaged.
