I just got a blues jr. They had a reissue of sorts. It is vintage black and tan #87 of 125 according to the plate. Does anyone else have one. It seems mine has a fender eminence 12" speaker in it. The other ones I have seen (black) have had jensen speakers. Does anyone have a comparison between jensen and eminence?

What is the difference between this and a NOS? Can I just replace the tubes with NOS tubes and get the same thing?

Hello Mikeyb1029,

I believe these are a Sam Ash exclusive
They look neat and sound as good as
my NOS BJ. I didn't compare them
side by side but they seem pretty
much the same.

Best of luck with it.

Cheers.

Yes it was a Sam Ash exclusive. I compared it at the store side by side and the sound IMO was better with the black and tan. Besides, the look is great.

NOS stands for New Old Stock. These are tubes that were manufactured a long time ago but were still available as new on someone's shelf somewhere. Those older tubes are considered to be of better quality and closer to the same ones used in older vintage gear thereby enhancing their desirability.

To answer your question, you might get a better sound if you replace your later manufactured tubes with NOS tubes. However, its all about your own ears and how you yourself will perceive the sound from your amp. It is recommended that you try to find tubes that are matched in pairs if possible.

That's interesting and am curious about your level of confidence in it.

I've actually got a NOS arriving Monday.

Also unable to locate a Blues Jr. NOS on Fenders site and am curious about that as well.

The Blues Jr NOS is only available from Guitar Center and MusiciansFriend.com. MusiciansFriend is owned by Guitar Center by the way.

I did not know this, although wondered if the first portion might be the case when I couldn't find them on Fenders websight.

Again, how sure are you regarding your thoughts on the NOS truely applying to these tubes. I believe the abbreviation, but was wondering if it truely applies or is just a little marketing ploy. I e-mailed Fender with some specific questions regarding this amp, including the tubes. Mostly for trivia, the amp's on it's way.

Little update on the one I mentioned I had ordered.

Have been wanting this as a second to my Deluxe Reverb for quite a while. (To stereo My Ric and to have something to take with me to work on the backshifts without having to hork my Sons Cube 30X). But at $530, figured I'd wait a month or so more.

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=483711

Sunday, I saw an add on their site for a blem for $403. Picked up the phone, sales person told me they had 2, minor scratches, been tested, full mfgrs warranty, 45 day MF return policy applied, and if defective, they'd pay for the return shipping. (That listing was gone the next day).

Never got an order or shipping conformation email, as this was a phone order. Called them this morning to check status, was told everything (ordered a couple other items including the optional footswitch), shipped out yesterday and was due to arrive Monday.

This afternoon I got an email stating the amp portion of the order had been cancelled. (insert expletive here). Called, guy apologized but they were out of them. Told him the whole story, how it was a birthday present (for me; last one that starts with a '4'), how much I'd spent with them this year ($7K+) and I'd like to speak with someone about getting an un-dorked up one at a better price since they confirmed my order and strung me along for 4 days thinking it was a done deal.

He talked with his supervisor, came back and told me he couldn't come down to the $403, as they pay more than that, but he could sell me a good one for $439.

I said "OK".

It's on it's way.

(happy birthday to me)

Update on NOS vs 'reglar'. At least in the case of the NOS version recently purchased from MusiciansFriend, referenced above.

Folks at Fender responded to my questions the same day I sent them. Twice, in fact. Here 'tis.

------------------
That amp does have spring reverb. It is just called NOS because of the
tweed covering on it. The tubes are the same as the ones in our current
Blues Junior amplifier. Other than the speaker and covering, there are
no differences. I hope this helps.

Hey Jeff, On a side-note, are all NOS bj made in Mexico ? Just curious. I haven't been here before and gave up the search to find the answer, so I apologize if this is an old question. Hey, I'm an old fart.
The last Fender amp I bought was in 1987 and before that in 1965.
I wish I had that kind of staying power.

Thanks, B

I appreciate the humor too.

I played this amp today...didn't look to see what the speaker was, but I have to say, I liked it as much, if not more, than the NOS version.

I'm a hobbyist, and just need a good sounding amp for home and sometimes to take to my friend's house to play. I don't like the sound of any of the solid state amps that I've played.

I like this amp...can anyone confirm what speaker is used in this amp or is it the same as the NOS?

Seems like there are a couple of opinions on what the speaker is...

Thx...

jjw
