I just scored a MIA Deville. Bought it for the awesome clean channel. The drive/more drive channels are OK, but not great. Is there a tube swap that will improve the drive channels? I really want to avoid effect pedals if at all possible. Thanks for any insight!

IMO pedals are a must.

if there is no other option, may I suggest this fairly expensive but amazing pedal, it covers a lot of ground:

Thanks to both of you for the responses. I'll be looking into distortion pedals now.

The Hot Rod Deluxe III was very close to having a good "more gain" sound, but not quite enough for what I was looking for. If I'm going to go the pedal route, then I'm better of with 60W and 2 12s. Thanks again for your responses.

Yes! A 5751 in V1, a 12AT7 in V3, will help smooth the drive channels. If that isn't enough, also try a 5751 in V2, and/or a 12AY7 in V1. I'm using a 5751 in V1, a 12AX7 in V2, and a 12AT7 in V3, and am pleased with the drive channels, using them more than I did before the tube swap.

The Zinky-designed Pro Sonic was quite innovative and offered several different OD voicings based on the multiple rectifier modes.
