Hello im from Chile South America, and love Fender stuff and The Ventures Music.
For years wanted a 59' bassman RI amp, very rare at my country.
Finally purchased a used unit from earlies 90's, sounds awesome.
My problem is the ground switch and the infamous cap of death, the amp uses 2 prong cord.
Searched a lot but cant find any info or schematic for first bassmans 59 RI.
I want a 3 prong cord plug but not sure about the right mod.
The amp has 2 fuses too.
Anyone can helpme please?
The 2 fuses add extra protection?
Readed horrible scenarios about the cap on internet.

Regards!

Bassman 59 Reissue use 3 prongs cord with a death cap. I live the cap there, noting to be afraid about.
Only old vintage amps use 2 prongs.
A mod on your amp ??

Schematic here, it is easy to find with Google;

Ah Ah it is a 3 prongs with a ground pin removed

Just replace the plug, not the cord and enjoy the amp :D

Correct.

Someone very careless and/or very stupid has damaged that plug.

For safety's sake, replace it immediately.

If only 2 wholes are in your AC receptacle get thisImage and do not destroy your plug, but do make sure you screw the tap into where your outlet cover screws into as this will produce your ground, instead of you becoming the ground

Is a very good notice .
But the ground switch is wired, and the infamous cap possible in it, or not?,i know the late models the switch is no wired.
Any user of a bassman can take a pic of the board to compare wiring.??

Thanks !

Don't worry about the cap , use your amp as it .

There a lot of electrical stuff you use in your house with this cap, because you don't know you are not worry about

The black and white wire can be atached to any of the two plain prong? Or need a secuence one specific right and the other left.
Im sorry at my country 125 volts stuff is rare.

On a modern 3-conductor AC plug, you'll find that it is polarized, with one of the prongs slightly larger than the other. Connect the BLACK wire there. That's the "hot" side of the power cable. The WHITE wire is the neutral (return) and connects to the smaller prong. The GREEN wire is the ground (brits call this "earth") and it must be wired to the center prong.

I've seen this a LOT of times in older amps. Esp hi-fi amps. Ppl do this so they can flip the plug, into the outlet (changing hot side to neutral). It's done to help defeat hum due to non-uniform house and unit wiring, wrt hot-neutral polarity.

Very unsafe practice. Ppl even file down the wider prong on modern plugs, to continue this practice.

Usually, checking house wiring (esp older room addition wiring) --- and wiring within the amps, pedals, pre-amps, etc --- one can safely eliminate hot-neutral miss-wiring source of hum.

I replace the tampered plugs with a good Leviton one.
