I've just found what looks to be a good deal on a used Hot Rod Deluxe. It's a made in the USA model. Anything in particular I need to be on the lookout for?

I'm going to check and make sure the reverb is in working order & I'll check the speaker- What was the stock speaker for this model?

I'll appreciate any help y'all can give.

IIRC the OEM speaker for most HRD's is a special-design Eminence of unknown specs. It's adequate to the task after a suitable break-in period but there are better alternatives.

Thanks, Retroverb.

Nothing in particular to look for/ be aware of before buying? Anything problematic that these amps are known for?

It'll be my first tube amp. I'm stoked!

Appreciate the feedback!

My new HRD purchased in '04 went into the shop twice within two years -- once for a dead reverb tank and once for defective channel-switching relays. I unceremoniously dumped it shortly after that while the transferable warranty was still in effect. That ended my relationship forever with *any* modern Fender amps.

If its a good deal, it probably needs maintenence, resoldering or tubes. Warm it up for an hour or so. Put it into Drive and then rap sharply on the center of the rear cover. If it tries to change channels, it needs resistors resoldered.
Rap on the tubes with the back of your fingernail to see if they are microphonic.
Wiggle the input cable to ensure the socket is secure with no dropouts.
Exercise the external speaker jack with any plug 25 times or so to clean the internal speaker switch.
Good luck
