Hi all,

I'm currently experiencing odd behavior from my BB15 head after using a volume pedal in the effects loop (Ernie Ball MVP 6182). Since using connecting the pedal, my the BB's master volume no longer functions in the zero position. That is, all the way down, the knob no longer kills the sound, but rather remains audible considerably (at a level similar to the 9am position). I can however, still kill the sound with the volume pedal heel-down. But the Master volume should be talking care of this all by itself. I'm wondering if the introduction of the pedal may have something to do with this.

I understand that in the effects loop one would traditionally opt for a 25k volume pedal. I've read several posts on the matter. But the MVP boasts (on the EB website) the ability to work with both active and passive setups, it even explicitly mentions the ability to the use in the effects loop, but it doesn't mention specifically whether it uses 25k or 250k, or something else entirely.

My question is whether is some lingering or overlooked impedance concern with the pedal itself would lead the BB's master volume to begin behaving this way.

some context: I know the volume pot is not broken because just last week I took the BB to the shop complaining about this very issue (and regarding some noisy tubes), and somehow, someway, the tech was not able to reproduce my issue with the master volume. The master volume worked fine for them and for me when I brought it back home. So after I brought it home and connnected the pedal once again, BAM, the same symptom appears. The problem is I don't know if the techs did something unwittingly that caused the master volume to reset itself the first time, but I'd like to know so I myself can fix this on my own.

Anway, any thoughts on this symptom would be most appreciated.

thanks,

UPDATE:
So in my attempts to figure this out, I cracked open the back panel and began poking around. I wiggled a couple of wires and identified the wires that may be related to the Master volume. The volume returned to normal functionality. Within three days that malfunction returned, and I repeated my steps from the time before, but this time I sprayed deoxit on the terminals I had previously wiggled around and closed her back up. Its been two weeks and the master volume still functions normally. I don't know which terminal was/is the culprit, but it is one of three that I sprayed with deoxit. I hope I solved the problem, but I have a feeling at some point it needs to go in and get fully work out, but I think I have narrowed down the problem. I hope this update helps.

I have a pic that identifies the terminals in question, But I don't yet know how to attach a pic on here, so if some can help me with that I'll update with the pic.

thanks and best,

Look a broken solder or broken printed circuit , need to reheat and add solder.
Spray contact cleaner on a terminal is a wast of time and money.

+1

The amp is too new for any gunk or crud to have accumulated on the chassis, components, or PCB. But mediocre soldering is a known issue with all Fender equipment, from entry level to custom shop.

OK, I'm having a ridiculously hard time figuring out how to upload one of my own photos on here. I'm posting this one instead which I found from another site. Everyone is no doubt right that the amp is too new to need deoxit, but I can't deny it has worked at least for now, and it has at least helped me pinpoint the trouble areas. I can tell you that what I did is spray deoxit on only the three white terminal posts in the background on the left. They appear directly under the last four knobs shown here in the pic.

Also, it is obvious to me now that the volume pedal really has nothing to do with this issue. I am using the pedal again as normal with none of the negative effects I'm talking about here.

Many stuff in spray are cold and some bad solder may react to cold. IMO this is happened when you spray on terminal.

Nothing new , solder need to be reheat. Not a easy job even for a qualified tech.
Or terminal pins need to be fix.

Posting picture is not easy for the first time

Did you try to unplug terminal connectors ?

Thank you for you reply. I actually would like to disconnect the terminal connectors to better visually inspect the problem but don't know how. and I don't want to damage it by just yanking them out if there's a specific way to do it. Do you need a special tool to remove them?

thanks,

No tool needed, sometimes it have a tab to push before you pull connector, sometimes just pull.

I read you have no experience in electronic . Event if you can disconnect connector, you will not see what is wrong and / or you won't be able to repair.
You may damaged more your amp

Just to finish rounding out the discussion I'm linking to a video I made recording the malfunctioning Master Volume the last time it showed problems.

I hope any of this information proves helpful to others. I too hope to from some of you having more insight into this problem.

thanks,
