Good morning~
I want to discuss something about amplifier of guitar with you.So here I am.Actually,I am wanting to design some buffer circuitry for a homebrew fancy guitar selector gadget.
I got it from internet that a op-amps will give me more flexibility in circuit design. For an example,a preamplifier circuit that based on a UA741 op-amps. According to one of the UA741's datasheet: http://www.kynix.com/uploadfiles/pdf8827/UA741CD.pdf ,It is wired as a non-inverting amplifier while it should be mounted on an IC base just like the following diagram.

But some people have observed that op-amp buffers sound “colder and more sterile”.
Do you have any opinions?would a JFET circuit really preserve the guitar’s tone better? If there is a difference that could be noticed, I think maybe I’d be willing to do the more involved JFET design, though I’ll need to know how to boost the gain (I’ll want to boost the signal be a few db), which of course op-amps can do more easily.
How do you think? --Agree? Disagree?
Well, this is a rather ethereal question, but if any of you know about this, please advise.

The 741 is an obsolete design from the 1970s. The TL071 JFET sounds much better and can plug into that circuit without modification.

Great to have a little project. I tired that once or twice. I built a metronome one time using a 555 timer, something like that.

Having said that, I don’t see any point in this circuit. You want more gain, turn up the volume. Source impedance problem, loading? 12V supply, why not 9V battery (doesn’t buying batteries get old). An external supply might add grn loops, noise, etc. Sure built this kludge, feedback resistors, little IC pins, caps, switches, what’s the point going point to point? What a mess. It be best on a PC bd. I’d rather buy a great effects pedal, and some pedals have two outputs. Don’t let me stop you, proceed with your project build. Why not build an effects pedal, like a fuzzy tone.

+1

Not much profit to be had by reinventing the wheel.
