I just got a Fender acoustasonic 15 for the purpose of amplifying my harp at small gigs. A harp is usually played in quiet settings anyway, so I thought this would be a good solution to get a little bit of volume for a low price. I was planning to use it by plugging a mic into the amp and placing the mic close to my harp strings (I don't have a pickup on my harp). The problem is it just didn't sound very good (a lot of background noise and it wasn't picking the sound up clearly). My boyfriend has a lot of audio equipment so we just experimented using different things with the amp (preamp and mixer). The mixer plugged into the 1/4" jack with mic plugged into the mixer actually made the sound much better, but after reading a few forums I'm wondering if this will damage the amp (something about plugging a "line level" device into a jack). We kept the mixer and amp turned down very low so as not to distort the sound. I looked at the manual and the impedance for the 1/4" jack input on the amp is high (2Mohms), but I don't really know what this means, or if it is compatible with the mixer. The mixer is small and does not plug into the wall if that helps. Bottom line, will this setup damage the amp over time, or will it be okay as long as it is turned low and the sound doesn't distort?

You won't hurt the amp if you keep the levels low.
