I have a gig coming up in a couple of months and was asked by the host if it's OK if they use my microphone. I am only bringing my Fender Blues Junior guitar amplifier and would have to plug the microphone into that. I've always heard it's bad to do this, that it can damage the amp, but a Google search didn't quite confirm this to be the case. The concern I saw was that vocals won't sound that good going through an amp, but I didn't see any horror stories about them being destroyed if you do that. It would probably be about 30 minutes of talking through the amp. I'd like to help them out, but I feel like I would be risking damaging the amp. If anyone can give me some perspective I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

If it's a phantom powered mic, you can't do it at all.
If it's a dynamic mic, you can, but a mic signal is around a hundredth the strength of instrument level, so you'll have to crank it up way high. That you have to crank it is the main concern for the amp.
For the audience, a guitar amp is not very useful outside a ~80-4,000 Hz range, so it better be a man and not a woman talking, cause you'll lose treble.

You'll almost certainly get better results from even the cheapest solid state amp that has a mic input, like a $99 Fender Acoustasonic 15. Or the cheapest PA you can find.
