Hi,

I bought a used HRDIII last year. I've been playing it in local gigs. Overall great amp. The power amp tubes have started ringing/buzzing. I took them out to find that they're SOVTEK 6L6WXT. I didn't ask the other owner if they were replaced but would it have been usual for Fender to use these? I checked the manual and only Groove Tubes are mentioned.

I'm looking at replacing these with Groove Tubes GT-6L6-GE Med Duet. Any suggestions welcome on the options.

Thanks.

Fender has used Sov-Tek tubes in the past but AFAIK their current amp line-up is powered by GT's and has been so for a number of years. Perhaps your amp's previous owner installed them.

Thank you, Arjay. I've ordered GT's for the pre-amp tubes and http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/en/shop_TAD_Premium_Tubes_TAD_Power_Tubes_SELECTED/6L6WGC_STR_GE_Style_black_plate_TAD_PREMIUM_Matched_2819 power tubes. I would have gone with a local GT power tube seller but have gig coming up soon and they didn't have stock.

Appreciate your help.

Groove Tube do not make tubes, they put their name on Sovtek and JJ for most Power tubes,
Buy Sovtek and if you are lucky you do not need to check and adjust bias if bias was good before....

I thought even Sovtek was just a branding these days, with almost all tubes coming from the New Sensor / Reflector plants in 3-4 plate/filament variations, which influences what name goes on them?
(JJ presumably still use the old TESLA equipment to produce at least some of their vacuum tubes.)

The TAD 6L6WGC/STR/GE/Style black plates are great tubes. I run a set in my '66 Bassman and a set in my '84 Concert, they perform very well in both amps.
