Dear all,

I would like to know the pros & cons of changing the reverb pot for an audio pot on Twin Amp (2002, Pro Tube Series).

Thanks in advance.
Regards

I guess it depends on whether or not you like just a tiny little bit of Reverb or a fair bit.
An audio taper pot starts out slowly as you move up from zero and then ramps up the rate increasingly aggressively as you continue on up.
That should, theoretically, provide finer adjustments at the lower end of the scale.
Audio (logarithmic) taper pots typically work best as volume controls and some presence controls.
If you are handy with a soldering iron it might be an interesting experiment to see how one would work in a Reverb circuit.
You'd of course have to ensure the electrical value of the replacement pot conforms to the OEM pot.
Except for the taper of course.

If you do swap it out, please come back to this thread and report your findings.
I'd be interested in knowing about that, myself.

Thanks BMW-KTM!

In fact, I think the reverb knob could has more reverb when at 10. Comparing the reverb of a Twin Amp at 10 with a Twin Reverb RI, the last equals the first at only 7.

I will only do the change if I get some assurance it will increase the amount of reverb at 10, otherwise I would be just as I'm know

Furthermore, I have to pay for the service, because I don't understand nothing of electronics. That's another reason for my research before the change.

:)

When you say Twin Amp are you referring to the "Evil Twin" or the TRRI?

You might try swapping out the 4AB3C1B tank for a 9AB3C1B.
Those are part numbers from Accutronics.
The type 4 (first digit in the part number) is a 4 spring tank where the type 9 is a 6 spring tank.
More springs equals more reverb.
The 4th digit (3) is already for a long decay time so there's not much room for increase there.
Extra springs are prolly your best bet.
My Rivera amp has a 6 spring tank and the reverb is very lush.

Twin Amp (2002, Pro Tube Series). 100W, 2 channels (clean, overdrive), reverb, tremolo, 1/4 switch for 25W power.
The TRRI is the one I'm comparing my Twin Amp with. TRRI has 85W, don't has the switch to reduce output power.

However, the tank it's the same on both amps.

You will not get any more reverb by changing the taper of the pot, absolutely and unequivocally not.

Thanks BMW-KTM!

Do your really advise me to change for 3 spring reverb tank? Never thought about it... But thanks! I'll look for it. The MOD seems very good. I really need more reverb on my amp.

Thanks.

No prob.
Like shimmi says, the pot ain't gonna give you more reverb.
That's why I suggested a tank swap.
Do it.
You'll like the end result.

Keep the original tank.
Put it back in when you go to sell the amp.
Two reasons.
1) modded amps scare some buyers off and usually diminish resale value.
2) you like reverb and that tank just might work on the next amp you buy.
If not you can always sell it.

I've seen youtube videos, and read about 3 springs tanks, and it seems to has less effect than 2 springs tanks.

:?
