OK Novice Question: Champion 20 amp has two wires going to the speaker one is white, one is black. The speaker has two tabs, the left tab is marked +, the right tab is marked -. Which wire goes to the + tab and which wire goes to the - tab?

Please don't tell me it doesn't matter, I understand that it doesn't always matter but the easiest way to keep it in phase with any other amps I may use with it in the future is to just go ahead and put it together with the + wire to the + tab.

Any help please?

This only matters in phasing with more than one speaker. Speaker info is AC-like, not DC. There is no absolute polarity, like in DC wiring. The (+) and (-) are put onto speaker terminals to help phase the speaker. For instance, the speaker's cone should initially move forward on a bass drum attack. Just like the drum does.

Now, you want all of the speakers' cones in the cab, to initially move forward on the same bass drum attack. They are then in-phase. If one or more are moving backwards on the that initial attack --- they will cancel out some of the bass quality in the overall cab. Out-of-phase.

The kicker is (+) and (-) stamped on speaker's terminals is arbitrary to the manufacturer's wishes. Jensen (+) and (-) maybe just the opposite of Eminence's. Really, it's even different between speaker models by the same manufacturer. Or same speaker models --- but, different manufacturing dates.

Best, to test the bass response in a multi-speaker cab --- to get the cleanest, tightest, strongest bass --- using various (+) and (-) arrangements between the individual speakers. Mark one side with red dot corresponding to the amp's wiring (black output line, for instance). Then, it'll be easy to take the speakers out of cab and reinstall with correct phase.

But, for a one speaker cab --- you may only need to worry about phasing, when you are gigging with others.

Typically the white wire is connected to the "+" terminal while the black lead goes to the "-" terminal.
