I am looking for a cost efficient alternative to the 65 Twin Reverb Reissue. I am currently using a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe in combination with a Vox AC15 (Fender Clean, Vox Crunch). I am looking for an amp that is closer in watts to the Vox.

What does a TRRI have to do with any of this?

:?

I like the sound but don't need the volume.

The clean channel of your HRDlx should sound similar.

Copious quantities of 6L6 power is one of the reasons the Twin Reverb sounds and feels like it does.
You're not going to duplicate that in a 15 watt amp.
Sorry.
Take Arjay's advice and keep your amp.
An AC15 or anything like it is a step in the wrong direction if your tone goal is a TR.
A step in the right direction might be a Pro Reverb or a Blues Deville.

I understand you may want to follow the current trend of using smaller amps mic'd up for live use but the current trend is also a whole mess of small amp owners going to discussion forums asking how to get big amp tone out of a little amp.

A Mustang III or IV gets reasonably close, but a tube amp will have a better vibe IMO.

I'm loving the Super Champ X2 http://shop.fender.com/en-US/guitar-amp ... x2&start=1
Yes; it is 15 watts...and yes; you can gig with it.
Works just fine un-mic'd in a band, as long as you're not in a loud heavy metal band.
I play blues, rock, southern rock...and I picture it working just fine for country too.

Paired my head with the matching SC112 cabinet http://shop.fender.com/en-US/guitar-amp ... 00000.html and kept the combination under $500 for a 15 watt tube amp, and 1x12 speaker. And you CAN get damn close (if not right on) to the '65 Twin on the right settings.

Also have a 1999 Blues Junior with a Celestion Greenback, that is also 15 watts, that I got used for $325...and can easily keep up with a drummer. (though this one has it's own unique sound that can not emulate the '65 Twin)---just saying, it is possible to get big sound without high watts.

It all depends on your intentions. I do more Studio and home practice than I do gigging, and some of the larger wattage amps (Hot Rod DeVille 4x10 comes to mind) are just way too much amp....couldn't sell mine quick enough.

Plus one on the quote above, I had a Super Champ X2 and it is a awesome amp, I sold it and miss it a bunch.

yeah, right now I am an at home player and occasional playing with friends. I just feel that I do not need the 40w that i currently have in my HRDIII. The other thing that I struggle with is that when I do play either at home or with friends, I use a second amp for my crunch sound. Not necessarily the most convenient but I love the crunch sound that I get from that amp.

The Super Champ X2 with nice 1 X 12 cab or even a DRRI seems like a good choice. Maybe, go down to music shop & try them out?

Good hunting!

It sounds like a few carefully-selected pedals might let you get away with a single amp -- have you checked into that?

Try using input 2 on your HRDlx, which will give you lower output and smooth the drive channel a bit.

Also, try lower gain preamp and pi tubes. This will clean up the sound, tame the volume, and make the drive channel more pleasant sounding. Judging from your requirements, I would start with a 12ay7 in v1,a 5751 in v2, and a 12at7 in v3. If that is too tame, up the 12ay7 in v1 to a 5751.

Arjay[/quote]

I have a very nice collection of pedals currently. Boss DS-1, CH-1, CS-2, NS-2, AC-2. Ibanze Tube Screamer, Danelectro Fab Tone and Cool Cat.

I am using the TS as a boost for my Vox AC15 that I use for my crunch channel. The others are available to both amps.

I am finally happy with my the sound I have for my crunch. Just trying to find the clean sound that balances well.
