Dear Fender: this is the place to announce your new amps. Please give us a heads up here as your press releases hit the streets so we can rush to read them and drool over the pics. It's now 1pm Austin time and nothing from Fender yet. What gives? Shy? Performance anxiety? Never Fear...WE LOVE YOU!

Any Fender Forum members who get wind of anything please let us all know here, too! This is the Sears Christmas catalog of the New Millennium!

Jeez slow show so far! A sweet little mini modeling amp from Crate with 2 4" speakers and a USB-direct recording out is the best so far. And that new Crate V-series II Blues Jr. fighter. So far Fender's been a no-show.

So far this Summer show which is always half the size of the Winter show anyways is turning into a major snoozefest--folks all over are shocked at what a slow start it's getting, and that may turn out to be an indication of the overall experience. Here we are with Day One mostly over and Fender has announced....................(drum roll)

All that's come in of interest so far has been a nice little Roland Street Cube for buskers and the Crate Profiler 5 which definitely sets a nice bar for Fender to top: two 4" spkrs, simple KNOB-BASED modeling and EFX like the G-DEC Jr. but with 3 separate efx knobs so you can independently control reverb, echo and chorus/flange. Nice. But the kicker is--and Fender needs to pay attention here--it has USB DIRECT RECORDING with Mackie's Tracktion 2 bundled. Formerly a $149 piece of software (before Tracktion 3 came along).

So you can play your tracks out your studio monitors and just play along live with full tone/efx controls, then when an idea strikes you, just lay a track down direct, no miking or going through a mixer or anything. No dogs, wives or landladys barking and/or screaming in the background.

Frankly, G-DECs sound good enough to record, even the Jr. If they had USB-direct, Bob's yer uncle.

Maybe Fender stayed home this show. Or maybe the whole marketing team hit the Awesome Austin club scene late last night. They'll roll in around closing time...

Well as we've suspected Summer NAMM was a joke. Far as I can tell Fender never even showed up. Apparently attendance was light and the vendors let it be known that they hated Austin as a venue and are getting their wishes to go back to Nashville next year.

Only two companies showed much of anything, Roland and Peavey, and even there no interesting amps.

And ironically, the star product of the show wasn't even IN the show, it was announced by Crate 2 days before and not even at the show. The Profiler 5 lets you record direct via USB and throws in a free 5-watt micro-modeling amp with efx all for around $160. If you record in your home studio, that is a near ideal package.

Summer NAMM has always been the weak sister of Winter. This year it was the deceased third cousin.

I'd like a Fender spokesperson to come in here and give us their perspective on it as a lot of us were looking forward to seeing something from them.

Summer NAMM is what is is: tremendous fun for all, and a great chance for us to meet with retailers and keep business relationships alive -- but a pretty mellow show otherwise and pretty lightly attended. It's been that way for several years now so it's not surprising that this year's show was similar.

So Fender showed no new product? I certainly couldn't find any and I scoured all the usual suspects across the net.

The hit of the show? An unobtanium job from an unknown company of unknown utility to be released nobody knows. But Craig Anderton sez: "If this was shown here it would have been the hit of the show. All I can say is: it is amazing!"

Apparently there was a lot of buzz at the show about upcoming hardware but everybody's sworn to secrecy. Ought to be some Winter NAMM. Wonder if Fender will show up for that? :D

Definitely -- again as in years past the Winter show is an entirely different gameplan and thought process. Shoot, we're already getting mentally prepared. :-)

A small, affordable 65-watt Cyber Champ-type with a G-DEC 30-style footswitch and a direct record USB out w/downloadable presets from a well-supported Line6-style user community merely a rumor?

Better not be! Fender is building the Cyber Pro as we speak.

(oh and don't forget to throw in a recording app like Cubase LE!)

"Giggable. Recordable. Updateble. Everlasting. The only amp you'll ever need, because it's every amp that ever was."

Fender needs me soooo bad!

No, Fender does not need you.

Winter Namm = "big announcement!"
Summer NAMM = "now shipping."

A MAC OSX/PC Fender Cyber Direct Recording Guitar Digital - Analog Interface or something like that with both analog and digital effets, build on an improved and now better than eve cyber engine, all that in a container like a POD or a Tonelab "a la" Fender, equiped with an editor (via USB, Firewire or MIDI).

That, would be much appreciated! We need something for direct recording Brad. Please forward to Shane!

Way to pile on, Brad! I appreciate you jumping in and trashing posters as sloppy seconds.

But judging from Fender's no-show at NAMM, the collapse of the Cyber line, the major QC issues with the G-DEC 30 and the beating they're taking at the bottom end of the tube amp sector, they clearly need SOMETHING! The Peavey Windsor is going for $399! It has most of what the $1,000 Princeton Scarface has. And more given its Class A tube swapability.

Looking forward to Fender's response in January. I'm sure they'll have some interesting new products and I'm also sure they will have a response in the sub-$500 tube world. Fender's a bit like GM, they're big, conservative and a little slow to respond to new categories and markets the way a much smaller company can. But like GM which has a slew of hybrids and amazing futurecars on the drawing boards, slow and steady can win the race!
