Hi all, has anyone else had trouble with the clean boost module from BillM?
I recently installed it in my Blues Junior, together with the stereo jack mod for a stereo footswitch that is supposed to turn on the clean boost and fat switch independently. I didn't install the presence control mod. Now one of the footswitches gives a sound the same as the fat switch did before, and the other footswitch does nothing at all! The “fat footswitch” sound that does come on can be made (even) less by turning the potmeter on the clean boost module, so maybe this is supposed to be the clean boost? In any case, it’s hardly a big boost even with the potmeter on the clean boost board turned all the way up.
Can anyone help me here? Is it because I haven’t installed the presence control?
So far the whole thing, including clean boost and stereo jack modules, stereo footswitch and stereo jack cable has cost me a load of money but no noticeable change to what the amp was before……. :?
Yours hopefully,
Steve (nilknarf)

Perhaps you should contact BillM directly......?

The Clean Boost is designed to come on when you pull up on the presence control.

Hi,
Here is the link to the BillM clean boost: http://billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=105
I have studied the information there and the various comments at the end of the link do indicate that the presence control is not needed for the clean boost to work. Grounding the orange wire (or not) to the metal chassis has no effect.
It would indeed be nice to ask Bill M directly - but he has now, regrettably, passed away..... :|

Any other comments or suggestions are most welcome!
Cheers, Steve

FYI

Bill Machrone may be gone (RIP) and his website did shut down for a while but they are up and running again, as of a couple of weeks ago, with some help from Allen Amplification.
You would probably be best served by contacting them directly.

I have posted a comment about this on the BillM site, but after 3 weeks it still says "comment awaiting moderation" - I don't think anyone is monitoring the comments any more on that site - the last posted comment on the "clean boost" part of the site is from 2015!

Is there anyone else out there who has installed the clean boost on a cream-board Fender Blues Junior that can offer some technical advice?
Thanks, Steve
