I have a 2x12 DV Neo cabinet that I really like running with my BB15 sitting on top for a faux 3x12 sound.

My BB15 has an EXTENSION SPEAKER and MAIN SPEAKER outputs, I have the speaker cable in EXTENSION SPEAKER when I want the 3x12 sound with 4 ohm setting on amp, and I replug the cable into MAIN SPEAKER when I just want the 2x12 cabinet, and switch it to 8 ohms. However I decided recently I wanted to compare these two sounds---but I didn't turn off my amp when i was doing the switching. Recently my volume has been going up/down and I seem to have lost a lot of low-end---- Is this the sign of bad power tubes or output transformer?

I read somewhere that what I was doing with having mismatched impedances for a couple of seconds can be bad for the power tubes and output transformer... I would definitely prefer to just replace power tubes

Wrong for most amps.

+1

An amp must be switched off or placed into standby before changing speaker loads.

Try a new set of power tubes. And pray......

From you description, the OT is likely fine.

Don't read that anymore, it is absolute rubbish.

Speaking strictly about tube amps, an impedance mismatch within a 2 to 1 ratio, high or low, is perfectly fine. So and 8 ohm amp can safely run a load between 4 and 16 ohms, all day and all night, for many years, with no worries.
