Greetings,

I'm here for suggestions on which Fender amplifier is best for me. I want a melodic, warm, rock tone, basically. Here is what I'm looking for, specifically:

1. All tube, including a tube rectifier.
2. Loud enough to use with a band and gig with, yet still sounds good at "bedroom" level.

What I like:

1. I like the sound of the 68 Custom DRRI. It seems like you could get a good (better) dirty sound from it at lower volumes. However, the flip side to that is with only 22 watts, a 65 DRRI tends to have to be played distorted when jamming with a band. So, the 68 CDRRI is probably even more distorted in the same situation. That wouldn't be good. Plus, for a MIM amp, it seems really pricey. Hopefully someone here can at least speak on the build quality. Maybe someone will recommend the 65 DRRI instead.

2. I like the sound of the 65 Princeton Reverb RI, but I dislike the sound of the 68 PRRI. However, in either case, I feel like this amp would get buried if you used it with a rock band. So, maybe it's not one I should be considering. Thoughts?

3. Super Reverb, and to a lesser extent, the Bassman. But, how are they at low volume? If I primarily play at bedroom levels, are either of these really my best option?

4. MIM Vibrolux RI. It has no tube rectifier. I'm not completely sold on its sound. Again, expensive. But it's a really nice size. Any comments on this one?

5. Maybe what's best for me is really a 57 Pro or Twin. I was hoping to get it done for less money, but maybe I need to face it.

Thanks in advance!

The Deluxe Reverb (vintage or re-issue) is much louder than its 22-watt output would suggest. I downsized from a Twin Reverb years ago and I never felt "out-gunned" with mine. It's always delivered, even when pitted against much more powerful rigs like a Vox AC30 or a Blackstar 60-watt 2 x 10 combo. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I am mostly a home player that wanted the ability to have a good amp to gig with too, and went with a 65 DRRI.

It sounds amazing, however it is a loud amp. But, I'd rather be a little loud at home than too quiet out in the world.

Thanks! Sounds like 65 DRRI would be a great choice.

Another recommendation for the 65 DRRI.

Before I got mine (a couple of years ago) I was playing a Peavey Classic 50/410 and the DRRI easily matches the output of that amp in a band situation. And it sounds a lot better! If you find yourself playing in a situation where you are unable to turn it up enough to get that beautiful tube breakup then a boost pedal can be used to bring it on a lower volumes. It is an awesome amp.

Incidentally, a lot of people think that the Peavey Classic range of amplifiers sound like Fenders because they look like the tweed amps. They don't.

I have a Peavey Classic 30 and few Fender amps ( and few other amps)
I hate this Peavey, it sound very bad.

59 bassman reissue. Just picked one up yesterday, and it would meet all your requirements, however you will need to get an attenuator for playing at home, especially if you want dirt from the amp (which you will if you ever get to crank it). Plenty loud enough for playing clean with a full band. Can be had used for <1000.
