I bought a 1987 red knob Dual Showman. New matched 5881 tubes and new caps. The nostalgia in me put a Dual Showman on my wish list. I got this to go with the new Bassman 810 Pro Speaker Cabinet I got ridiculously cheap recently. I figured these would make a good pair for guitar and some occasional bass playing I like to do. Am I okay, here, or is there a flaw to matching a guitar amp with a bass cab?
BTW, it sounds great!

Sounds like it passed the only important test. 8)

As long as the impedance isn't too far off, there shouldn't be problems.

Most bass speakers can go up to 4000 Hz relatively flat, which is in the ballpark of guitar speakers, but boomier on the low end, of course. If too much, just dial down the bass or get an eq pedal for better control.
If the cab is filled with woofers, you'll lose high end as well as volume, and there's not much that can be done about that. But since you say it sounds great, that's not the case here :)

+1

It should be *adequate* for guitar but sound outstanding when used as a bass rig.

Thanks for the replies. The cab is 4 ohm and the amp is 4/8/16 switchable, so matching is no problem.
The cab has a compression driver horn with attenuator, so I figure that helps with the mids if not the highs too.

I would leave that horn wide open when using the rig as a guitar amp.

Exhibit A - The Fender narrow panel Bassman.
Designed in the 50s as a bass guitar amplifier.
Found far more favour among guitarists.

Enjoy.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
