I am thinking to upgrade my Blues Deluxe stock speaker with a Jensen P12Q. The speaker has the same Watt with the amp (40 watts) and I wonder if that creates any problems. I have read in various forums that there is possibility to destroy the speaker. On the other hand The is a special model Blues Deluxe Smokey Tweed wearing the same Jensen P12Q speakers. Any opinions?
Thank you

If you could find a made in USA vintage Jensen P12Q, that would be very nice. The Italian made re-issues are not close to the original vintage ones.

OTOH, the Weber 12A125A (or 12A150) is a very fine modern speaker. IMHO.

I'm not anymore a fan of Jensen since they are not build in USA.

Many other brand are a better choice IMO

Dont you think that same speaker Watt - amp create a problem? The logic says yes, but on the other hand how Blues deluxe smokey tweed works?

I high volume you hear the speaker than the amp.

I think you'll be ok as long as you remember not to run wide open w/o a chance of blowing the speaker. I had a 25watt speaker in my DRRI(22watt) but never played above about 7 on the volume. The safe wattage value is usually 2x the amps output as a general rule.

A better (safer) Jensen choice would be the P12N. At 35 watts, the P12Q offers no margin of safety whatsoever in the event that you inadvertently crank the amp wide or have a runaway power tube.

According to Jensen site P12Q is 40 Watts. P12N is 50 Watts (and far more expensive) Moreover Blues Deluxe is a very loud amp, so with P12N the amp breaks up at very loud volume. The idea with P12Q is to break up earlier in lower volume.

Do you know how fine the line is between speaker breakup and the point where the sonofabitch actually breaks?

Good luck with that.

So how Fender produces a 40 watt blues deluxe with a 40 watt P12Q speaker under a special modern Blues Deluxe Smokey Tweed? That was my question from the very best beginning.

Using a lower wattage speaker is sometimes a trade-off for more speaker breakup when the amp is cranked. Good quality speakers can handle the punishment of being pushed to their limit, and can sound superb when pushed. So if you want to push it, I would make sure to use a quality speaker. Personally, I'm not a fan of speaker breakup, and prefer a speaker that sounds good and can more-than-handle the output of the amp.

That's the animal I was hunting w/ my DRRI. I've gotta say the result was not earthshattering.
I've since put a 50watt speaker back in the DRRI and get a better breakup and sound reproduction using quality tubes and a single OD stompbox at any level of volume.
If you're going to aim at a lower watt speaker, imo you should at least cover the full output of the amp +25%.

New Jensen vs old Jensen specs aren't the same either.

So how Fender launches a "boutique" Smokey Tweed Blues Deluxe amp with same watt amp and speaker? Maybe, someone from Fender must answer this..

I would guess the limited edition "smokey tweed" had a better Jensen than what is available currently and different amp innards as well. Since only 150 were made, they are quite desirable among collectors.
Here is an old thread w/ a good pic of the speaker: http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=80859

If you want a modern P12Q, go for it they aren't bad just not as good as they used to be which is purely a subjective point.
Arjay is right about the P12N being a better choice but he is referring more to vintage vs modern spec speakers as I was trying to point out also, though the statement applies as well to modern Jensen's.

Actually, that article inspired me to change the stock speaker :-)
