I have a 1996 Evil Twin confirmed by Fender. How does it compare to the Fender Twin Reverb. After all is said and done, what are the main differences and ? I know this is highly subjective so opinions on which is the preferred amp. I know nothing about them so help me out. Thanks.

Well, for starters, the Twin runs 100 watts and has a 1/4 power switch to run 25 watts whereas the '65 Twin Reverb (TRRI) runs 85 watts and has no power cut. The Twin is a little heavier than the TRRI. The Twin has 2 instrument inputs where the TRRI has 4. The Twin is a channel switching amp where the TRRI is not. The TRRI technically has two channels, each with two inputs but they are not switchable without some outboard device like an A/B box. I'm sure others here can give some of the more technical aspects. As far which is more preferred I would hazard the TRRI is. That's just a guess on my part based on the fact I rarely see any Twins out there but I do see Twin Reverbs.

There was a significant price differential between these two models -- around four hundred bucks IIRC. That may be a contributory cause.

I wasn't aware of that. I never really gave them much notice. Not sure why, really.

Seems as though they appealed more to the younger players than the fogeys like me. I do remember checking one out in early 2001 when I was in the market for a new amp. Ultimately I ended up with a 1999 TRRI -- it was a proverbial cream puff and, at half the price of the new Evil Twin, a virtual steal.

They are very different. The red knob Evil Twin has more gain in its drive channel than a Hot Rod Deluxe in More Drive.
The clean channel is also higher gain than any other Twin. Its very bottom heavy.
but none of the vintage twins approach the gain of their evil brother.
If you play lead, metal or need pedals to boost your gain alot go for it.
