I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me out.

I want to buy an EVH 5150 50W amp and live in the US. The problem is that I will most likely be moving to Germany in about 2 years and won't be able to use it then because they have 230V/50Hz. Is there any way I will be able to use this amp in Europe as well as in the US, specifically can I make it work with 120V/60Hz and 240V/50Hz?

Any help would be appreciated.

EVH schematic show wiring for 120 and 240 volts, it is a universal power transformer or it show some of transformers Fender may use ?

Or you buy a 400 watts and more voltage converter;

The voltage converter seems to be a good solution, I thought they would be much more expensive. Is the different cycle still an issue? They have 50Hz in Europe and 60Hz in the US. I'm pretty sure that transformers and voltage converters usually don't change the cycle. Not sure if the different cycle could cause any issues as well.

You mean cycles, I read on this forum some people say the cycles must be the right one, some other say they try their US amp on european voltage / cycles and see nothing wrong.

My opinion is it is safe.

Converter price, some look cheap than other, but it is easy to find good one a low price,

A converter transformer is a good way to go.. It can be used with other appliances as well.
The thickness of the Power transformer laminations are optimized for 60 Hz.
However, it is common for a world capable amp to just switch primaries, so I wouldn't think it is critical to have a 50Hz tranny.

You are correct, I did mean cycles, sorry for the confusion. I guess I will just try a step-down transformer then. That seems like a pretty cheap and easy solution.

Be sure to buy one that's rated for at least 500 watts continuous. Your amp may draw only half that load but the reserve will give you peace of mind in addition to powering your pedal board or other guitar-related accessories.

Thank you. Is 500 even enough? I know that the input power is 400 watts, but are there any sort of power spikes when turning the amp on or something similar? I definitely want to make sure that I have enough power available.

I didn't realize the power consumption was that high. You're right -- look for something in the six to eight hundred watt range.

Thanks for the clarification.

400 watts power it is full volume. Power spike to need more power ? Nothing for talk about.
If you never play at full volume, a 500 watts is enough.
If you play at full volume for few hours and with many effect pedals, I'll look for more than 500 watts to keep step down transformer cool.

Frankly, I'm at a loss to understand why a 50-watt amp draws that much line current.

An 85-watt Dual Showman (4 x 6L6GC) only requires 260 watts.

Some kind of " Bad" desing ?

My Vibrolux Reverb with 2 amp fuse; 2 X 125 volts = 250 watts ( fuse will blow)

EVH use 4 amp fuse ; 4 X 120 = 480 watts ( fuse will blow )

Don't buy used.
800 and 1000 watt transformers are pretty commonplace, 2000 watts is about the top for most.
run the 1st couple hours on something other than your amp, if they fizzle its usually in the first few hours of use. Try running something small that heats up, not a coffee pot they usually draw 1000 or more watts for an hour or so.

+1

It would be prudent to load-test the device with some other appliance before risking your amp on it. And using it in conjunction with a power conditioner might not be a bad idea either.

What is a power conditioner? I never heard of it before.

I also can't believe the amp has 400 watts with 50 watts output, seems very high even at full volume.
