New to Fender Electric Guitars and Amps. Picked up a new 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Amp and every time I switch to "Standby" it "POPS" loudly!

Is this normal?

Please excuse my lack of knowledge here. The Display model I played at the store I do not remember it doing that at all. I called Fender and they said to try it for a bit and if it doesn't stop to return/exchange it. Just thought I would check in with this knowledgeable group.

Note: I always start the Amp on Standby (minimum 30 seconds). When I switch it off Standby it works fine. Only "POPS" when I switch to standby mode. The "POP" is LOUD!

Appreciate any and all info.

Best,
Michael

It is normal. It is the filter caps discharge.

A 0.0047 or 0.01 capacitor solder on standby switch will remove the pop

And you want that cap to be rated for at least 600 volts. A 1000 volt disc cap works well to minimize the pop.

Try turning the volume down to zero first. Seems obvious, but hard to remember.

I have a Twin, three Deluxe Reverbs, a '63 Vibroverb, a '68 Custom Vibrolux, and a '68 Custom Princeton, all reissues, and they are all different.

Most make some kind of noise when switching on & off, and there are varying degrees of "pop" loudness.

My understating is this is normal on your model amp. I doubt it would hurt anything even if load. The standby is meant for warming the tubes when you first power up. If they weren't warmed up for 20 seconds or so it could damage the circuitry. With that said I would just get used to turning the volume down when you take a break. Shut off procedure is just to power down. Great line of amps enjoy yours

Pop will not hurt anything, you'll hear the pop with volume at 0

Does this cap go, in series, before (PSU cap side)? Or after?

Thanks!

By "on the stanby switch ", I mean in parallel.
