I have several Cyber Champ amplifiers (3 to be exact!) which I like because of they are lightweight (I am 65 years old!) and the 7 saved user pre-sets (A > G) give me enough tonal options to avoid dragging around a bunch of stomp boxes & connecting chords. The only gripe that I have is that I have to stand right next to the amp to go between & switch the pre-sets. A few years back I experimented with Fender's remote foot pedal designed for the Cyber Twin amp but frankly the thing was too darn big and heavy for the very limited purpose that I need which is to simply switch remotely from one pre-set to another (even in the same bank).

Is there anything, ANY type of foot pedal, remote device or MIDI device, that will accomplish this? The only inputs on the amp are MIDI IN & OUT. I'm hoping that someone will have a creative and resourceful idea how I can possibly accomplish this?

Yes? No?

Thanks, Jim.

Looks like I'm striking out on getting any leads for a resourceful way to accomplish what I'm trying to do. Hoping this bump might attract a few more visitors, maybe one with a good idea, before I shut this thread down and assume that there's nothing simple I can do. Thanks to all who have looked and scratched their heads.

Those are hard-wired buttons (not virtual ones, like on a smart phone). I doubt there is a simple wireless device to activate them.Sorry. :(

Yea I figured that but I'm not limiting myself to wireless. Anything that plugs into the MIDI input will serve my needs...if such a thing exists?

I'd imagine maybe a pedal, which may need to be custom made, could work. It would need to bypass all the push switches. This maybe an $$$ and difficult proposition.

The Fender Cyber Deluxe & Cyber Twin have a remote pedal which does this and it also works on the Cyber Champ. I had one. It plugs right into the MIDI input. Trouble is it's just too large, bulky & heavy and operates & engages far more functions than the Champ has available. The mere existence of such a remote pedal made me wonder if something smaller could be made available for the Champ? That's what started my curiosity. That said, it looks like I'm alone on this one and walking down a long lonely path! Thanks for weighing in.

Hey Jim,
I have been recently been stricken by the guitar rig bug after many years' low usage after I stopped gigging 20 years ago. I have a Digitech GSP 2101 I bought and gigged with back in 1995 and I have been getting into midi control of the 2101 and my 1st generation Cyber Twin. I also have an Evolution UC33 Midi Controller I got 10 or so years ago which has had very little use.

Last week, I got the UC33 controlling Cyber Twin parameters and was blown away at the functionality. Like you mentioned, adjusting parameters of your amp when your ears are not in optimal amplifier throw is frustratingly inefficient. Not anymore!!! I essentially mapped all 18 of the continuous controllers outlined in the CT manual and am now able to adjust parameters without leaving the optimal throw zone of the amp. I literally could not walk away for 5 hrs after getting it set up. Personally, I am shocked I never set this up before because, my goodness, a set up like this is the way remote control was meant to be used with a magnificent device like the Cyber Twin.

I'm really happy to find someone else interested in the same type of setup :-)

There are some pitfalls with this setup.
The most important pitfall is the amp will now be across the room and the display is too far away to read. The display on the UC33 is no help in this regard as it only displays what the UC33 is doing. Next week I will be getting a footcontroller involved. I gave my old Art X-15 away last winter because it is just a massive piece of metal and it never worked that well for me. I bought a GSP 2101 footcontroller on ebay that is en route. The Digitech controllers have an 18 character display which will be useful being so far away from the optimal throw zone. I'd love to get a Johnson J12, but they are not easy to find and prices for J12 warrants purchase of a more modern device. Frankly, the only way I have figured out, so far, to get the display closer to the OTZ (optimal throw zone) is to get a Cyber Twin head...which has its downsides (cable runs).
Also:
_UC33 is not a footcontroller
_MIDI knowledge needs to be maintained and built upon
_UC33 manual is not very well written
_UC33 is not a midi merge device (2101 and CT do merge, I am looking into other solutions too)

The UC33 put me off learning it because with every command (except cc messages) you have three seconds to input your button pressing before the UC33 display returns to it's top level state (the last knob or slider that was moved). You just need to spend some time with it. Also, the UC33 comes with plastic overlays which essentially label the controls for UC33 supported softsynths and DAWs. The UC33 ships with an overlay on it which is the same color as the housing which needs to be removed to see the factory control labelling. Once I realized this (10 years later), the manual instructions became easy to follow. I used white electrical tape on one of these overlays to label which control on the amp/fx unit is being controlled by the midi controller when choosing how to layout the controls on the UC33.
Also, UC33 will chsnge programs/patches without much set up: press Program button>type in program/patch number on UC33 number pad. There is a downside which is the UC33 waits 3 seconds to send the Program change. You could set up the buttons to send cc, I haven't done that yet.

NONE of these pitfalls should deter you from integrating a midi controller into your guitar rig set up, because a set up like this is the way it was meant to be, especially with a Fender Twin amp throw. UC33 is a very inexpensive device if you can find one.

Further, I am doing a bit of old school midi every day to get better at it and I have found it is a process of learning and set ups. My inspiration has come from watching That Pedal Show these past couple months. Personally, I'd rather not have my computer involved for the guitar rig. That said, I do intend to experiment sending midi CV out of Propellerhead Reason to modulate parameters via cc in Cyber Twin and 2101.

Interestingly, the CT and 2101 handle cc differently. The CT tells you which parameters are controlled over which cc numbers. That means editing specific midi controller knob, slider or button to match the CT's designated cc number. This is easier than it sounds. All settings can be set up from the midi controller except midi channel and cc channel.

The 2101 works the other way around: on the 2101:
_Highlight the parameter you want to control (flashing underline cursor denotes selected parameter)
_press MIDI button
_navigate to cc link page and choose cc link number (#1-#10; 10 cc params per program/patch, sadly...better than less I guess)
_use data wheel to set cc number

I haven't delved into midi channels much, everything I have been doing is omni, except my CT has cc set to midi channel 11. My 2101 is on channel 1...at this time, anyway.

I hope this helps and look forward to further sharing knowledge about the possibilities. :-)

Cheers,
_todd
