Greetings all! Recently grabbed the 68 Vibrolux after trying one in the shop, and couldn't get it off my mind - right weight, power, size for a great grab and go amp that still has some authority. Liking it a lot so far! However, the inefficient Celestion Ten 30's limit the potential of the amp's volume and headroom, and I also find them slightly lacking in top end sparkle. So, I'm thinking of getting something with a bump in efficiency and more appropriate tone for a classic Fender sound. Has anyone tried the Ragin Cajuns in this amp? I would like more sparkle, but keep the generous amount of bass the Ten 30's have.

Copperheads for blackface toans. Less spiky in the mids, a bit more bottom, more scooped blackface IMHO. However, 1.7 dB more quiet, so you can turn it UP.
And... two of them drops four lbs. compared to Cajuns.
Or one of each. That's seems popular.

+1

The G10C/S from WGS would also be worthy of consideration......

2 x Jensen P10Q's alnico spanko! I have a WGS G10 C spare to chuck in on occasion with one p10q if I want ridiculously more headroom. 2 x WGS G10C would be good as a alternative to the ragin cajuns. I did run a G10C and C/S for a while but it had way too much headroom.

At my local jam the guy runs a 68 CVR with 2 x ragin cajuns and it is super loud clean and spanky, he cant take it passed 4 on the volume and so cant really get the amp singing....... its a bit sterile.

I run mine (with 2 x P10Q's) at around 5/6 on the volume, either channel, and get fantastic clean/crunch tones at my finger tips, its very touch sensitive. also I really recommend the TAD 6L6WGC tubes, biased to around 35ma each....... mine sounds nothing like a stock 68 CVR.... for the better

It sounds like he bought the wrong amp. A Deluxe Reverb may be more appropriate for that venue.

I know they are cheap but I have this amp and I like the stock speakers. I push the amp to volume past six and I love the sound. Good weight too. Whole amp in low fortys for weight. Don't replace right away - you might like them too!

......but only when measured at warp five velocity divided by the cube root of π then multiplied by 6.625 dynes.

...But only when measured while in space. Here on planet earth you have to add the mass of air!

Would that be isobaric pressure measured at sea level or at altitude....say, 15,000' MSL or so?

Calculating "toan" certainly seems to be a complex equation.

I found a pair of Fender Special Design blue labeled speakers out of a 89 Princeton Chorus. Believe they are the same as Eminence 1058 25 watt speakers. Regardless they sound so much better than the Ten 30s that came stock in my '68 Custom Vibrolux. At least to my ears.

The EV is a great speaker, albeit on the heavier side of heavy.

I have a JBL D120F in my '68 Deluxe Reverb -- it tacked on about ten pounds to the amp's overall weight.
