Sorry guys, looks like we've got it all backwards. As our friend above pointed out, popular = quality.

all i can say is i sure hope Leo's vision remains the heart and soul of the modern Fender company. It's the vision thing, the reason why anyone is in business in the first place, that dictates long term success or failure (and an equally loyal long term or short term customer base).

in case you miss my point, take a listen to Dick Dale's account of how Leo worked with Dick to create a reliable, high quality, great sounding amp - the Showman. And don't forget, Leo was tone deaf.

China? I don't know enough to comment. Emotionally, i like the idea of locally-grown. Then there's reality too, we live in a global village. being in my sixties, i really like the idea of our kids having jobs - our kids are our future, never forget that.

ciao,
johnny.

Very good points johnny.
With regard to the Global Village idea and reality, also never forget that as your kids roam the Village looking for a job they'll be needing some Oxygen as well.
Manufacturing facilities operating in say California, while providing local jobs also have to act in an environmentally responsible manner. As johnny pointed out, the Kids are our future.
Here's the Beijing side of the Village.

The ever growing trade deficit and growing debt per capita in standard dollars says otherwise. The working American now have a purchasing power of around ($90,000) due to public debt.

Investing in local production has become a necessity - if those who hold our debt can't find anything of ours to spend it on, the debt will accelerate exponentially. Protectionism will only hurry that, as reciprocal tariffs make it even harder for us to export.
Unfortunately, a free market won't invest locally. It's a tragedy of the commons, where short term profits over competitors outweigh long term viability for everyone.

What can we do? Buy locally as much as we can, and hope against all odds that congress will listen to economists and not the vultures who funded them.

That'll be the day!

Despite protestations to the contrary, congress is the most powerful special-interest group in Washington. And they have but one objective.....self-aggrandizement in perpetuity.
