Hi all,

I have a 60-watt 1x12'' Super Sonic from 2007-08, I'm the original owner and it still has its original valves. It hasn't been played an awful lot. It is my favourite amp by far, lots of usable tones.

Recently however the Bassman and Vibrolux channels no longer seem as clean as they used to. I do a fair amount of recording though a Torpedeo Reload, which has an attenuator - it lets me open the amp up wide so the power amp valves can be pushed, so they've been ridden pretty hard as of late.

The Bassman/Vibrolux channel now seems to break up really early, around 3 or 4. Anything higher than 5 is full on distortion.

Could this be valve-related? It doesn't sound bad - it is actually quite usable in a '60s-'70s kind of way, but I do miss (and need) the warm, clearer tones I used to have.

I do have a set of new valves on standby, I bought them when I bought the amp - but I've not swapped them out.

If I'm swapping like-for-like power amp valves, does the amp still need to be re-biased? I've got no real complaints about tone (save for the dirty cleans) - the Burn channel actually sounds divine.

New power valves in any amp always need bias check and adjust if needed.
