stratele52, it is about letting the amp heat up and cool down more slowly. Slower heating and cooling is beneficial for longer tube life.

Are you kidding

When power Off a amp, how put stanby switch to stanby first help ? Don't you read my voltage reading ? Sure not.

To power On I agree.

I did and I think you're full of merde.

It's not about voltage per se -- it's about heat dissipation.

And a power-tube's glass envelope manifests significantly higher temperatures when the plates are energized by the B+ voltage. Remove that voltage via the standby switch and the tube begins to cool.

Simple physics. You might try studying it sometime.

WTF do you think Leo designed his amps with a standby switch in the first place?

Because he wanted to spend an extra ten bucks building each of his amps for the sheer hell of it?

Mon dieu!

No B+ voltage = no heat dissipation.

I always wrote Stanby is useful to power On a amp * ( many think is not a must ).
That's what Leo think IMO

So difficult to remember ?

arth1, write same about Stanby

You forgot about the heater.

The heater gets the tube warmed up, then when B+ is switched on the tube gets even hotter. Proper use of the standby switch allows for a gradual heat up and gradual cool down as compared to turning the heater and the B+ on or off at the same time.

I know what heater voltage do.
Not IMO for cool down.
