Hey everyone.

I've bought the amp from US and bringing to Europe. Is that safe to plug it directly into the wall socket that gives 220 volts?

Thanks.

NO!!

You will immediately fry the transformer in that amplifier if you plug it directly into a 220Volt wall socket. You will need to purchase a step-down transformer to bring the voltage back to 110Volts.

I am not familiar with the Hot Rod Deluxe III. Some Fender amps were built with a multi-voltage switch specifically for export. I don't believe the Hot Rod Deluxe III has this feature.

It would look similar to this on the back of the amp:

Thanks Jerry.

It's kinda unsafe to use transformer, if I forget and leave it on it may get hot.

I don't know what to tell you. I used a step-down transformer for my 1970 Bandmaster in Belgium from 1975 to 1979 and never had a problem. The transformer had an on/off switch. Turn off your amp - turn off the transformer - what could be easier.

Wal-Mart sells transformers:

You MAY get away with a heavy duty 220 to 110. But, not the other way around.

If you plan on using the amp on 220VAC forever, get a tech to install that Hammond tranny I posted on the other link. This is the safest and most reliable method. It's NOT the voltage that is critical, it's the Hz. 50Hz requires a much more heavier duty internal tranny wiring than 60Hz. You need a 50Hz (or 50Hz/60Hz) rated transformer, for safe continuous use.

I have not seen any late model (post 1990s) Fender amps with that multiple voltage range (red) switch. I believe Fender went away from using these, because of terminal failures in amps, where the switch was not reset to proper range --- when amps moved around the world.

The Hammond replacement is a direct drop in. All wiring diagrams come with transformer. I've done several guitar and hi-fi amps. Using Hammond or other aftermarket trannies. All have worked out fine.

:D

You should do what BMW2002Ti suggests. He knows what he is talking about.

The proper transformer would be the best long term solution.

I'd agree. Yeah, that 50 Hz info, there’s some facts for ya. Thanks BMW.
I appreciate there's some very knowledge people on this forum.

From some forum:
Perhaps an actual Fender Export transformer part was not directly purchasable from Fender,
but available if ordered thru a Fender dealer. (Just an internet comment about buying Fender parts).
