It seems I am not alone in getting a hum from my DRRI reverb that gets louder the higher the reverb is set. It is not a major problem for me because I do not set the reverb above 2 and at the level the hum is barely audible.

However, I would like to fix the problem if I can. I have replaced the tubes in V3 and V4 and also the lead from the chassis to the reverb tank with no success. I bought the amp, new, about 20 months ago so it is still under warranty and I do not want to go poking around inside.

To try to identify if the problem is in the chassis or the tank there is one other test I would like to try but need to check here first to make sure I'm not going to damage anything electrically.

Is it ok to connect the reverb send directly to the return so as to complete the circuit but isolate the tank. My thinking is that if the hum is still there the source is in the chassis. If there is no hum then it is originating in the reverb tank.

Is my logic sound or am I likely to introduce other noise sources as the connecting lead will unlikely be the same resistance as the tank? Also, can I potentially cause component damage by connecting the send directly to the return?

Bypass tank with 470 K resistor as read here;

Thank you for the suggestion. I am not wanting to boost the gain in fact I'd really want to keep everything else unchanged in trying to identify the source of the hum.

I don't think I'll be trying the lead straight from reverb send to reverb return.

I know I t is good hints to bypass reverb tank

You will have more gain than with a resistor. Too much for tubes ?
