Greetings all,

I just acquired a '65 Deluxe Reverb blackface reissue. There's no date code on the QA sticker, just a scribbled "W". However, it has a "Fender 60" badge on the back of the chassis, and the EIA codes on the PT and OT transformers are 606MS0607 and 606MS0606 respectively. The serial number is AC 0592_ _ A few questions:

1. Is there any reason to not believe it was built in 2006?

2. What do the "MS" letters stand for on the transformer? I'm used to seeing the four digit date code right after 606 Schumaker code.

3. Did they only put the "Fender 60" badge on amps manufactured in the 2006 anniversary year?

4. Lastly, anything else I need to know about this year of DRRI amps?

Thanks all.

To my knowledge, 2006 was the last year that Fender did not use RoHS solder to assemble their amps.

The "AC" prefix to the serial indicates that the amp was built at the Corona, California facility.

Thanks, Arjay. I'll be sure to keep the amp out of our brook trout streams here in Virginia!

Also, Arjay (or anyone else),

The 6G6GT power tubes are Russian Electro-Harmonix stamped 0505 and 0506, and the 5AR4 rectifier has the same grey print at the power tubes but says Sovtek Made in Russia with 0505. Could those be the original power tubes? (The guy I got it from didn't know if they had ever been changed.) The amp sounds great and hasn't been played much, but 10 years seems to be a bit old, don't you think?

All the preamp tubes are the original Fender GT tubes. On a couple of them I can see the grey "made in Russia" print beneath the orange Fender/GT writing.

Thanks.

The drri is designed to take 6v6gt power tubes. If you're looking at 6l6's I would venture to guess that they are not the original tubes. I would also want to make sure nothing else was tampered with before I switched back to 6v6 tubes.

Congrats and enjoy your drri.

Total typo...They are 6V6GTs not 6L6s. Thanks for catching that.

I would have thought if they were the original tubes they would be Fender/Groove Tubes, since all the preamp tubes are such. What do you think?

If the amp isn't 'broke', don't fix it.

IOW, absent some audible or visible tube problem, the extant bottles are likely fine. If you're feeling energetic you might perform a quick check of the idle bias -- anything within the 19.5 to 22.5 mA range is copasetic.

Enjoy the new amp!

Sounds good. I just built one of Tube Depot's Bias Scout tube tester. I'll give it a test. Thanks, Arjay.
