I have attached a looper pedal to the effects loop and I cannot hear the recorded loop via the headphones (but I can hear it with headphones removed). Is this an expected result or am I missing something?

No you’re not missing anything. If you can find the schematic, looks like the headphone output is in parallel with the effects loop output or preamp out.

I would assume your looper pedal output cable sends a by-pass to the headphone output plug of the pedal. Try disconnecting the output to the amp to disprove my assumption.

Un-plugging output had no affect, I may have to hook up direct to guitar... :(

OK, you got me there; trying to figure out what you have set up visually...I'm not real familiar w/ the amp in question, just trying to help.
1. You're plugged into the pedal from the guitar
2. You have a cable from the pedal output to the amps effects loop input
3. Where are you plugging in the head phones? the pedal, the amps effects loop output or the amps headphone jack

My assumption was that you were plugging headphones into a single pedal and it was being by-passed because there was a cable going to the amps effects loop.

Running dry/wet,
Your guitar should be plugged into the beginning of the chain when using pedals processed in the amps tone stack(wet) with the last pedal out to the amps input.
Your effects loop must be a full circle/circuit(effects loop out to pedal train start and last pedal back into the effects loop input). Running threw an effects loop is what I believe to be dry, so plugging headphones into a pedal would result in no sound amplification because it isn't being amplified by the gain stages or tone stacks and enters just prior to the phase inverter/output section.

Hope this helped.

I have only (1) pedal in my effects loop. I have my looper Jam Man XT pedal's output plugged into the amp's loop effect input and the pedal's output into the amp's loop effect input. My guitar is plugged into the main input. My headphones are plugged directly into the amp's headphone jack. If I unplug the headphones I can hear the loops output and my input from my guitar, but if I input the headphones, the amp's speakers are muted and I hear only my guitar through the headphones. I am not sure if this is a design flaw in the amp, a defective amp, or user error. Thanks for your help!

Ok, I got a better picture now.
The amps speaker is by-passed when a headphone jack is plugged in.
Does the effects loop have a volume/level control? turn it up if so
Does the pedal have a headphone jack? try your headphones there
Use another cable to connect the amps effects loop output to the input of the pedal (complete the circuit) this might send the guitars signal path in your amps circuit to the headphones.

Just my best guesses, good luck. This is also what jackhammer was referring to in his post via parallel or series.

I spoke with the shop where I bought the amp, they spoke with Fender and apparently the amp must be defective. So...takin' it back for a replacement. Thanks for all the help!!!

It might be wise to take your looper with you to the store and check it using another amp. You may find that it simply is not simpatico with the design of the Champion 100.

Took my looper to the store and it did the same thing with floor model. Associate agrees it must be a design flaw. He is going to call Fender and let me know what they say. So...headphones work fine without effects loop, but will not play effects loop items through headphones :(

Perhaps it's an issue with the looper......?

Looper seems to work fine connected to guitar or connected to effects loop, I just cant hear the loop (I can hear guitar) in the headphones while using the effects loop. It's like the effects loop was not designed to accommodate the use of headphones. Thanks for the help!

I have a Champion 100, and I just now realized the headphone circuit does NOT include the effects loop. How is this happening ? Really Fender ? REALLY ? You didn;t think users would want to hear the pedals through the head phones ? You must be joking.
Pathetic. I need Fender to do a mod on my amp and make this happen.. This is just unacceptable.

They don't call it an Effects Loop. While you may get indignant about it, you could just as easily put the looper in the input jack.
The headphone is in stereo to take full advantage of the digital spatial effects that speakers can't. When you plug into headphones, the headphone detect circuit tells the CPU to turn off the speaker, crank up the effects chip to go full stereo and turns down the gain so you don't blow out your eardrums. When the headphones are unplugged, it switches back to Mono effects and higher gain for the main stage. The loop is mono because the main stage is mono as well. It's clearly labeled Power Amp In.
You can tie the headphone driver circuit to be post loop. Pull one end of R99 and R101. Pull the end away fron the side that connects to the ICs. Solder a wire to each resistor and connect them both to positive side of C134. Its a 2.2uf electrolytic cap. It will be in mono, however.
