well..............
Sorry to have to say I can't get over 17ma with the new rectifier per tube
way cold bias and that's with the bias pot wide open

So I pulled the Mullard from my Super Reverb and with the bias pot wide open I'm only getting 23 to 24 ma
Put the Ruby/Fender GZ34 in and I cant get past the mid 20's with good USA tubes RCA or Sylvania
The EH hit 30ma with room to spare.

It wan'ts cheap tubes ??????????

Try the new Philips ECG rectifier in your Super Reverb. I bet the bias is about the same position, as with the Mullard GZ34. If so...

Check the plate voltages you are getting with those rectifiers, in the DRRI. My guess is the new Philips is giving you the most DC volts at the plate. And the EH the least. Your range of mV read compensates for this, to give you just about the same output in watts:

(volts) X (current, mA) = watts.

This would indicate that the voltage generated by the bias supply maybe a tad too negative (nominal = minus 33VDC). Not allowing proper biasing with strong testing rectifier.

That EH rectifier may require more tweaking in your SR to get the tubes to idle at the same wattage, as the Mullard rectifier.

I'm on the page with you Beemer !
I'll put the Phillips in the Super reverb and see where it lands

I'll bet it's very close to the Mullard in there now

In that case the DRRI will need surgery to use the better rectifiers and will probably go up for sale

Yep Steve exactly as you predicted, The new Rectifier was within 1.8ma of my original Mullard in the Super Reverb making it an excellent backup for it !

The DRRI is getting a new reverb tank, the Jensen and original tubes reinstalled and well...............
She Gone ! as the boys at Duck Dynasty would say
It will sound 100% better than when i got it, the cold bias will be gone and a correct 27pf Silver Mica bright cap
That changes everything from the OD fizzies to outright Ice Pick.
The speaker ??? well thats the next guys problem.

Were you able to get the bias close to nominal? The wattage output (both plate voltage and idle current)?

Thanks!

No it runs fine with the Fender / Ruby GZ34 and the EH 6V6GT's

I wonder if fender did some tweaking to get them to get along with the modern junk ???

Just curious, what voltages are you getting at the plates with the low current readings and nos rectifiers?

Thanks

Never got that far SoCal
I knew I didn't want to do further surgery and so went back to the fender labeled stuff

Chris,

Good that amp is moving on. These DRRI circuit board amps can be very delicate little things.
My bet is the bias supply would need maybe new pot, diode, cap, and dropping resistors.

On to the next project! :yay:

Very delicate indeed. When I replaced the filter caps on my drri I also inadvertently lifted a trace or two. I don't normally subscribe to the pigtail method of replacing components, but on these boards I'm also not opposed to it. Next time I replace the caps I'm gonna pigtail solder them for sure.

Update
The new owner says it's the best sounding DRRI he has ever played
The higher value silver mica bright cap and a good bias goes a long way in these amps !!!
