I'm looking for tone and sustain ala Clapton's groaning the blues from the "from the cradle " cd. check out "groaning the blues" on youtube (the version where clapton's wearing a blue shirt") and you'll see what I mean. Almost endless sustain without dirt. Sends shivers up my spine on those held bent notes and vibrato.
Thanks everybody!!

1) Use your neck pickup
2) Roll the guitar's tone control all the way down
3) Crank up the amp's volume
4) Back the amp's treble control down
5) Crank the amp's mid and bass tone control up (especially the mid)

A clean OD/boost pedal such as the Fulltone OCD may be useful as well.

As may a compressor/sustain pedal.
