It's an unusual failure that happens to larger speakers, but its not restricted to any brand.
It happens with very cold temperatures and a differential of expansion that causes it. The front of the magnet warms while the rear stays cold.
A similar failure from cold temps is when the glue that holds the magnet to the basket fails. The magnet shifts sideways and pinches the voice coil. It might make treble, but no bass.

Tim,

Only saw a speaker split like yours, when someone dropped a 12-inch one. Was sitting on top of shelf in garage. I don't believe he was able to fix it. His was a ceramic type, like yours. Think it was an old Eminence.

I posted this on Speaker DIY board. See if any response.

TimsAudio, Speaker DIY board said speaker is toast. Even if you used JB Weld or some such super adhesive, the chances of you aligning the magnet halves back together in perfect field alignment is near zero.

Ppl have glued alnico magnets together, then gone through a re-annealing heat process to realign the magnetic poles. But, it's time consuming and expensive. And no guarantee this will work, so that the magnet is back to 100%. But, often done on alnico magnets because they often come on more expensive, vintage speakers that are hard to replace.

+1

On the whole, it does appear to be a write-off.

That said, it can't hurt to experiment with it.

While I have been known to tackle the "unrepairable"; this one is toast and the pic just for Wow.

TimsAudio, aligning the voice coil gap would be an issue. Let alone aligning the flux of the broken magnet.

:x

He could always turn it into a passive radiator.

Yeah, I got to say WOW. I would think it’s an unusual failure too. Great picture, thanks. I’ve never seen that.
