The "Bassbreaker" name is clearly meant to associate with both Bassman and Bluesbreaker. The design is very much like a Bluesbreaker with a reversed color scheme (black where grey is, grey where black is). The difference in name/design is likely just enough to avoid getting letters from Marshall's solicitors.

I like the idea of the Bassbreaker 18/30 myself. It has two distinct channels with the overall design of a brownface (18W) and a blackface (30W) deluxe, but EL-34s instead of 6L6s to get more of the British Bluesbreaker tone. To get that for under $1000 seems like a steal. And 30W is more than enough for most uses - my Orange Rocker 30 can attest to that!

The only reason I haven't pulled the plug on one is that I'm a bit worried about how much of the innards are made in Mexico and how much is designed in Taiwan and made in China. I.e. quality.
And that I haven't had a chance to try one without several pimply faced youths nearby trying to dime Marshall Super Leads and Randall Diablos. In the cacophony of your typical Guitar Center, any kind of try-before-you-buy is meaningless.

oy vhey! no kidding!!

I was at a GC a few miles from the office this week, needed to pickup a few things, thought I'd give one of these Bassbreakers a try.. forget it...

three guys, on the noddle path, (who have apparently not been playing long at all), making about as much noise as any human could stand.

okay, I'm out...

As I was checking out, I asked the guy at the counter (who btw, had the personality of a sponge) "how do you guys put up with this sh--- all day".. he just looked at me, rolled his eyes, shook his head a bit and said "It's harder than you would think..."

Each of them plugged into a dimed full-stack Crate or Marshall, no doubt......

GC can be a challenge. The manager and his team locally got to know me pretty well. When they know I in a buying mood, they let me try out the gear in one of the practice studios they use for lessons. This really gives me a chance to listen to what I am buying.

Well what do ya know, Last night I saw Buddy Guy at Four winds Casino in New Buffalo MI

Check out his rig (his side of the stage) other guitarist and bass were on the extreme right and looked to be playing Super Sonic heads

Buddy had two of the Blues Breakers and a tweed that had a Fender plate but ???? something with two twelves in it ????

The top picture was after the show and the stage guys had already started packing up, the Blues Breakers were definitely being used in the show

The tweed box may be a low-power '57 Twin Amp re-issue or one of the original Bluesbreakers.

Bluesbreakers are. The question is whether Bassbreakers are.

Chris, how was Buddy Guy? Saw him a couple years ago, at the Greek Theater. With Jonny Lang. Put on a very good show. Think he had Bassman tweed reissues stacked behind him.

It was Great Steve, the crowd was big and fired up and Buddy got fired up too.
Got to see his daughter sing with him, very cool !
My wife used to get me BB King tickets for my B-day and sadly that's not an option any more.
Buddy told some great stories, played mostly from Damn right I Got the Blues and did some of his Jr Well & Buddy stuff too.

Always a good idea to see the legends before they pass!

I saw BB a few times, and I'm very glad that I did!
