I have a Fender Frontman 212R - solid state - 100 watts - 2 12" speakers - that I like okay, but is just too loud for most places I play (parties, small bars, etc.).

The two 8 ohm speakers were wired in parallel for 4 ohms total. Last night, I re-wired them in series, increasing the load to 16 ohms. (I called Fender and they said that this would be okay, and even make the amp run cooler and last longer.)

This should reduce the power of the amp (which is what I want), but by how much? One-fourth? Also, will this be okay for the amp? I can put it back if need be but like the less-powerful amp.

Also, how might this change the sound of the amp? I did not notice any change, but ti's not like I could flip back and forth.

:? WTF?

It is a soild-state amp, no need for rewiring the speakers, just turn the volume down. It is not like you'll get sweeter tone from the amp with the volume higher.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

You will not hear any difference, so small.

Sound change is very subtil, you may not hear it, with no A/B tests. Follow shimmilou advice

Thanks for your answers. I did this because I was already on 2 and the amp was barely on - now I can go to 3-4.

I know I need another amp, but this is what I have right now. I've read a lot of guff about these, but there is a very nice clean sound that works well with my little collection of pedals and telecaster.
