I just got a new Bassbreaker 15 on Saturday. I'm getting a hum in the efx loop. Tried a few different cords but still there. Even with nothing hooked up, just plugged in is enough. What's going on here ? And one other question. This amp could really use a footswitch for the voicing channels. I like the amp but how did this get overlooked in designing ?

IM having the same issue with mine. i bought it yesterday, and that hum is pretty disappointing. I tried different cables, hum, swapping out pedals, hum; i even jumped the fx loop with various patch cables, hum. i don't want to return it, but if i can't use the FX loop then whats the point.....

The problems with these stupid Fender tube amps are enough to drive you insane. I walk on eggshells just praying that my TRRI doesn't explode again. Come on. This is 1940's technology. Urg. And no one has figured out anything better or cheaper.

You're only half right. They've certainly figured out something cheaper.

As for better, well, for clean, you can't beat a good mosfet amp.
But most electric guitar music doesn't do well when clean is actually clean and not slightly ringing, slightly shimmering, slightly reverberating as in the typical "Fender clean". It's like good liquor - you don't usually want quadruple-distilled chemist grade alcohol, but enjoy the impurities that give it character. And so far, nothing does the equivalent better for guitar than a good tube amp.

That said, I'm about to pull the plug on a Roland JC-40, for when I really do want uncoloured sound, straight from the guitar or pedals, and doing double duty as an amp for some other instruments. But I have no expectations of it replacing my Orange Rocker 30 as my main amp. The amp colouring the sound quite a bit is part of the equation - part of the instrument I play.

You did everything I tried too. According to Fender they will have a fix in a few more weeks. Apparently the power transformer isn't shielded as well as it should be. I'm with you, I want to keep it and get an extension cabinet too but if the hum doesn't go away the amp will

I hope it stays that way for you. They're a good sounding amp but I guess there will be a learning curve just like a new car model or something

I am very interested in buying this amp. I've read everything here, and hope the problems will be solved by the time my, yet to be purchased, amp hits the sales pipeline. I hope everyone else gets their problem fixed with some kind of dealer-installed retrofit.

All that said, my problem is that I wanted to give the 15's manual a thorough read through to see if I could spot anything that would prevent me from purchasing the amp. I've searched the downloads, and can't find any reference to BassBreaker user manuals. That's pretty disappointing.

One thing I have picked up from here and from various reviews is that the unit doesn't have a dedicated foot switch for the three-way gain control. That's likely not a deal-breaker as I would probably run pedals. But it shows a lack of foresight on Fender's part. As in "Let's see. I'm running clean on rhytm. But when it's time for my solo, I need to take my mind off what I'm playing and turn around/bend over/whatever to manually adjust the gain. Not smart.

But, back to my problem. Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a BassBreaker 15 Combo user manual?

Check all grounding points in the amp. Look for loose nuts and bolts. Bad soldering points. Poor connector contacts.

Good luck! :)

They can deal with it when they get the right parts again. Talked to them on Monday. The latest is that they are trying to find a supplier for shielded jacks

Hi everyone,

I'm very interested in this amp, but I'm holding back because of the effects loop hum issue.

I see someone has posted that they are looking for a supplier for the parts needed to resolve the issue. Do we know if all the Bassbreaker 15 combos are affected? Only some of them? Is the head affected?

Any word from Fender on the issue?

I wanted to keep the thread current since I would like to know when and how the problem is solved and which amps are effected (date of production, head/combo etc) any new info is welcome

Got a new Bassbreaker 15 Head and have the same problem with a hum in the effects loop. Anything plugged into the loop causes the hum... even one pedal in true bypass mode or even a short shielded patch cord from send to return. To bad because I like the amp, but I need the loop. Had to send it back. I suspect it is a shielding problem. If there is any positive info that this flaw has been fixed, please notify here and I might try another one.
