I'm thinking about ordering one.
I will use OD pedals to get the gain and tone I like.
I never play clean and use low to medium distortion like Angus Young or Clapton with Cream.
Mostly play Gibson Les Paul and SG.
Tell me about your Vibrolux with pedals.
And post some sound clips.

Don't expect the Marshall-esque volume of AC/DC or Cream with this amp. Forty watts and a pair of tens only go so far......

I was giving an example of the type of distortion I like, not volume.
You don't have to school me on types of amps and power.
I've owned and played MANY.
So, have you played a Vibrolux with OD pedals?

I don't think he was "schooling" you. He was clarifying that you weren't going to get Angus Young or Cream-era Clapton tone with a Vibrolux amp.

The 68CVR has the wrong power tubes for such an excursion.

Plus, the 4x12 (or really, 8x12) speaker configuration of Angus and Eric's amps has as much to do with that tone as the types of tubes.

If you're looking for a Marshallesque OD pedal to make your Vibrolux more Marshall-y, there are a few options out there--but you're going into some signal processors instead of just an overdrive.

If you're looking for an overdrive that gives you a similar amount of grit and gain, you might try an Electro-Harmonix Soul Food (although it's a bit too transparent) or maybe a Danelectro Daddy-O.

You really need a distortion pedal to get the tones you want.

Yep, Arjay has plenty of experience with Vibrolux amps, and few dozen others as well. But since you popped off and arrogantly dismissed his statement, you probably won't benefit from his vast wisdom and knowledge.

There are plenty of "Marshall" pedals for turning a Fender into Marshall tone.
I'm not expecting a Vibrolux to give me Marshall 100w stack tone.

Then try the Marshall Guv'nor or JH1 Jackhammer.

Holy cow this forum is dysfunctional!

I played the Vibrolux at the store and loved it. I did not try it with pedals though. I did try a DS-1 with a Princeton Reverb and it sounded amazing. That's the extent of what I know, FWIW. I play a Princeton Chorus at home and am a fan of the 2x10" speaker configuration.

Why, yes. Pedals do sound good through a '68 Custom Vibrolux.
And they sound good through the other one, too.

My bands doing practically a whole cream set, Im using a roger mayer spitfire fuzz & roger mayer classic fuzz, running into a ts9 and a zen drive. basically I set my Vibrolux right on the brink of breakup, usually around 6 on the volume. I use the zendrive or tube screamer set mild as the tip over distortion/boost after my wah. I punch the signal with either of the mayer fuzz pedals to get the heavy goods and i place those before the wah. usually one fuzz & one o/d on at a time works great for cream stuff. my vibrolux has 5751 pre amp tubes though, takes the highs off the signal, my fuzz pedals didnt like the 12ax7's

oh, and the use of the guitar volume is needed to feather the whole lot....

That sounds like a pretty righteous setup, Steve.

Add a Roto-Vibe to your signal chain so you can do justice to "Badge".

Rawk on!

Fuzz before wah - I will have to try this. I found the OD pedals don't seem to push fuzz much. Fuzz pedals are interesting how they clean up when you roll back the volume

I run the same amp. The tubes really open up after six on the volume.

The other guitarist in the band has a rotosphere, he clicks that on for Badge :) I'm looking to put one on my board but havent decided which one to get yet!

On the Vibrolux I usually set the EQ pretty neutral. I use the custom channel for the cream stuff. We do some Peter Green / Fleetwood Mac stuff too and for that I use the vintage channel switched via A/B pedal.

For me, my Overdrives do work better after the fuzz. the Fuzz alone can be a bit nasty on these amps but with the OD afterwards it smooths them right out. Fuzz before wah works the best for me, if I put wah first it kills the wah sweep on my set up.

took this clip at our first rehearsal, just finding our feet with the material. I'm closest with my back to the cam and my vibrolux is underneath the cam. I think at this rehearsal I had the wah before the Fuzz, I swapped it round from then on

I made the same discovery decades ago when I got my first wah pedal. It was a Vox (the fuzz was a Vox Tonebender) and they sounded sweet through my '67 Super Reverb after I figured out the best order of precedence for them.
