Um... isn't "vaguely similar" an oxymoron?

The first editions of the Custom Vibrolux Reverb featured blonde Nubtex covering and wheatstraw grill cloth -- very sexy and reminiscent of the 6G8 Twin Amp from the early '60s.

No...for example, I look "vaguely similar" to my father. He's shorter, older (obviously) and rounder than I am, but it is apparent that he's my parent (pun intended)...we have enough facial and body similarities in appearance that people see his genetic traits in me, but no one would mistake him for me or me for him (thus the "vaguely" modifier).

Likewise, the mid-level wattage, 2x10 speaker configuration, similar tube configuration, and shared on-board effects make the '63-reissue Vibroverb and the '68 Custom Silverface Vibrolux Reverb vaguely similar.
The 63RIVV is richer, warmer and fatter-sounding, and has more clean headroom.
The 68CSVR is a bit brighter and breaks up sooner (by design).

Both have Fender Tone (obviously), but enough differences that an educated listener would notice.

I did not know that! I'll have to look up a pic--that was undoubtedly a good-looking amp.

I was referring to the blackface model with the white knobs...did they have the same circuit?

I'm pretty sure the cosmetics were the only change.

You couldn't go far wrong with the '68 CVR, its a good amp and great platform for tampering. I'm settled now on 2 x Jensen P10Q Alnico speakers, 2 x 5751 tubes in V1 & V2, and im back with the standard 12AT7 in the Phase inverter. Excuse the sh1t playing but here's a vid of me jamming at my mates birthday party, you can hear the amp cut through. Volume was around 5/5.5 on the bassman channel, eq was 12 oclock, Zen drive was the only pedal and was on constant, set transparent with a tiny amount of gain to thicken it up a bit.

Nice tone. Better than the Marshall and I prefer Marshall tone.
I'm thinking of ordering a '68 Vibrolux and will use Marshall type OD pedals for a Marshall tone.
